Assistant I - Library
Position Summary
The Information Services Desk Assistant serves as the primary point of contact for students, faculty, staff, and community accessing Library, Tutoring, and Center for Learning and Innovation (CLI) services. This part-time position provides frontline support for information inquiries, resource circulation, and technology assistance across CLI spaces and reports to the Library Manager of Public Services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Circulation and Resource Management
Utilize borrowing management systems to check out and check in laptops, hotspots, books, and other circulating materials
Verify patron eligibility and process equipment loans according to established policies and resolve basic account issues
Support with patrons regarding holds, renewals, and overdue items
Technology Support
Provide basic troubleshooting assistance for common technology issues including printing, wireless connectivity, and equipment setup
Provide Tier 1 Canvas support for basic navigation and access questions
Assist patrons with accessing computers, printers, and other equipment in public areas
Report equipment malfunctions and coordinate with appropriate technical support staff
Information and Reference Services
Provide Tier 1 reference support to students, answering questions about basic research tools, databases, and library resources
Direct patrons to appropriate CLI services including tutoring, technology labs, and study spaces
Assist users in navigating the library catalog and locating physical and digital materials
Escalate complex reference questions to librarians as needed
Facility Oversight
Assist students, staff, and faculty with checking into CLI spaces and study rooms
Monitor study spaces, computer stations, and public areas to ensure a productive learning environment
Respond to facility issues and coordinate with appropriate departments for resolution
Enforce CLI policies regarding food and beverage, noise levels, and appropriate use of spaces
Assist in opening and closing procedures as assigned
Administrative Support
Support the CLI team with special projects as assigned
Assist with event setup and coordination for CLI programs and activities
Contribute to ongoing improvement of desk procedures and student services
Required
High school diploma or equivalent
Excellent customer service skills and ability to work with diverse populations
Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Ability to learn new software systems and technology platforms
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment
Preferred
Experience in a library, tutoring center, or academic support environment
Familiarity with library databases and research tools
Experience with circulation or inventory management systems
Current enrollment at Yavapai College or prior community college experience
Working Conditions
Part-time position with variable scheduling including evenings and weekends as needed
Work performed primarily at the Information Services Desk with regular movement throughout CLI facilities
Occasional lifting of materials and equipment up to 25 pounds
Fast-paced environment requiring multitasking and shifting priorities
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
