As a Parks Tour Staff member, you'll play a key role in keeping our parks, trails, and public spaces clean, safe, and welcoming for residents and visitors alike. In this role, you'll be responsible for maintaining park restrooms, collecting trash, cleaning amenities, and monitoring park conditions while interacting positively with the public. Examples of Duties and Qualifications General Purpose: The Parks Tour Staff position is a seasonal role responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of City of Gunnison parks, public use areas, and park restroom facilities. This position serves as a visible ambassador for the Parks & Recreation Department, helping ensure a positive experience for residents and visitors through routine cleaning, light maintenance, and public interaction. The starting wage for the Tour position is $28.01 hour plus a bonus of $1.84 per hour worked, paid upon successful completion of the season. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of park restrooms, including sanitizing surfaces, restocking supplies, and removing trash Patrol assigned parks, trails, and public use areas to ensure cleanliness and identify maintenance needs Collect and dispose of trash and recycling from parks, picnic areas, and common spaces Clean picnic tables, shelters, benches, and other park amenities Report vandalism, safety hazards, or maintenance issues to supervisors in a timely manner Assist with basic park upkeep, including light landscaping, weed control, and debris removal Monitor park conditions and communicate with the public in a friendly, helpful manner Support special events setup and cleanup as needed Follow all safety procedures and proper use of cleaning materials and equipment Maintain a professional and courteous presence while representing the City Job Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: - Must be at least 16 years of age (18 preferred for equipment use)Valid driver's license preferred (may be required depending on assignment)Ability to pass a background check if requiredPrevious custodial, maintenance, or outdoor work experience preferred but not required Other Necessary Requirements: - The applicant should possess a current, legal driver's license and have minimal driving infractions. (Parks positions are subject to a background check) Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently while covering assigned routesStrong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness standardsAbility to interact positively with the public and provide basic information about park facilitiesBasic understanding of safe cleaning practices and chemical useAbility to identify and report maintenance or safety concernsDependability and strong work ethicBasic cleaning and chemical knowledge is preferred but can also be taught in the orientation process.Safe driver, managing time, keeping up with supplies and communication with Parks Foreman on issues, are all necessary in this position.This individual should be self-driven, as they will be working alone most of the time.English Language Comprehension - Requires the ability to listen to, read, understand and communicate the English language so that others are able to understand. This must be done both orally and in writing, at the level appropriate for the position held. Working Conditions Work Environment: - Primarily outdoor work in parks, trails, and public spacesRegular exposure to cleaning chemicals, waste materials, and public restroom facilitiesMay include weekend, holiday, and early morning shifts Physical Activities: - Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including sun, wind, and rainAbility to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods of timeAbility to lift and carry up to 50 poundsAbility to perform repetitive tasks such as cleaning and trash removal Tools and Equipment Used: - Everything that is needed is provided by the Parks Department including:Utility vehicles/truckCleaning supplies and chemicals (disinfectants, sanitizers, etc.)Hand tools such as rakes, shovels, brooms, and litter pickersTrash collection equipment and receptacles Supervision Received: Works under the general supervision of the Parks Foreman
