Manufacturing Engineer
*MANUFACTURING ENGINEER | BSU Inc. | Austin, TX 78754 | Full-time, Salaried*
*About BSU INC.*
BSU Inc. is a fast-growing electronics manufacturing and design company serving government agencies, high-tech firms, and leading corporations across the United States.
*About the Role*
We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in person at our Austin, TX facility. In this role, you will own process engineering across our SMT, through-hole, and box-build lines, driving yield, throughput, and right-first-time performance. You will lead DFM reviews, support new product introduction, and drive root cause analysis on defects — while also cross-training to run AOI and flying probe inspection equipment directly, providing hands-on backup coverage on the floor. This is a strong opportunity for an engineer who wants both process-engineering depth and hands-on floor experience in a growing EMS/PCBA environment.
*Key Responsibilities*
* Develop and optimize SMT process parameters (stencil design, reflow profiles, placement programs)
* Lead DFM reviews with engineering on new customer builds
* Drive root cause/corrective action (CAPA, 8D) on defects flagged by SPI/AOI/X-ray inspection
* Own process documentation: travelers, work instructions, IPC-compliant standards
* Support NPI — first article builds, line balancing, fixture/tooling design
* Learn and perform AOI and flying probe operation as needed, providing floor coverage and backup capability
* Partner with quality on ISO 9001 and AS9100-aligned process controls
*Preferred but not Required*
* Evaluate and justify capital equipment (e.g., inspection systems, stencil printers)
* Support ITAR Zone 2 process segregation requirements as build volume grows
* Experience with E2 or similar job-shop ERP systems
*Qualifications*
* Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
* 3+ years in an EMS/PCBA manufacturing environment
* Familiarity with IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, and SPC methods
* Willingness to cross-train and run inspection equipment (AOI, flying probe) directly, not just oversee the process
* U.S. person status required for ITAR-related work
*What We Offer*
* On-site role at our Austin, TX facility
* Hands-on exposure across process engineering, NPI, and inspection systems
* Mentorship and growth path toward senior process engineering responsibilities
