Powertrain Design Engineer – Engine Components

We are seeking an experienced *Powertrain Design Engineer* to support the design and development of combustion engine components for North American vehicle programs. This role is focused on *hands-on engine component design and design release*, along with supporting quality improvements, cost reduction, manufacturing, and supplier activities throughout the life of the product. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of *combustion engines and their mechanical components*, with experience taking component designs through development and release. This is a *design engineering position rather than a testing/evaluation or CAD-only role*. *What You’ll Do* * Design and develop *combustion engine components and systems* for passenger-car and truck applications. * Create and release engineering deliverables including *3D models, 2D drawings, specifications, technical reports, and design documentation*. * Support a variety of engine hardware, including *intake, exhaust, engine mounting, belt systems, cooling, lubrication, fuel-system components, cylinder heads, blocks, pistons, connecting rods, turbochargers, hoses, and pipes*. * Take ownership of component designs through *development, design reviews, drawing release, manufacturing, and implementation*. * Develop engineering countermeasures for *quality, cost, durability, and manufacturing concerns*. * Apply *GD&T and engineering standards* to component designs and drawings. * Work directly with suppliers and internal engineering, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, and cost teams. * Support supplier and manufacturing-facility activities to ensure quality and on-time delivery of components. * Collaborate with CAE/simulation teams and use analysis results to support design decisions. * Benchmark competitive engine designs and identify opportunities for cost, quality, and performance improvements. * Support continuous improvement of engineering and design processes. * Communicate with global engineering teams, including occasional evening meetings with Japan. *What You Bring* * Bachelor’s degree in *Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline*. * Approximately *7+ years of automotive design/development experience preferred*. * Strong hands-on background in *combustion/ICE engine design and development*. * Experience designing and releasing *mechanical engine components*. * Broad understanding of engine systems and how individual components interact. * Proficiency with *3D CAD and engineering drawings*; Creo is preferred, but CATIA or comparable CAD software is acceptable. * Strong working knowledge of *GD&T*. * Knowledge of common automotive materials and manufacturing processes, including castings, forgings, stampings, plastics, and rubber components. * Strong independent *engineering problem-solving and root-cause analysis* skills. * Ability to communicate effectively with suppliers, manufacturing facilities, and cross-functional engineering teams. * Ability to manage multiple engineering activities and work effectively in a collaborative environment. * Valid driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record. *Preferred Qualifications* * Design experience with *intake manifolds, engine-side exhaust/catalyst components, engine mounts, or belt-drive systems*. * Experience designing multiple engine components or systems rather than specializing in a single component. * Previous powertrain design experience with an *automotive OEM, Tier 1 supplier, or powertrain engineering organization*. * Experience with *design release and production implementation*. * Knowledge of *DRBFM* or similar design-risk analysis methods. * Experience supporting *quality, cost-reduction, and field-issue countermeasures*. * Knowledge of engine/powertrain assembly and production processes. * Familiarity with *FEA, CFD, GT-Power, or other CAE/simulation tools*. * Experience working with CAE teams and interpreting simulation results to support component design. * Experience working in a *global or multicultural engineering environment*. *Travel & Schedule* * Domestic travel to suppliers and manufacturing facilities is expected, generally *1–2 times per month*, depending on project needs. * Individual trips may typically last *2–3 days*. * International travel is uncommon. * Occasional evening meetings may be required to collaborate with engineering teams in Japan. * Overtime may be required based on project workload and development timing. \*\*\*1512425\*\*\* *Company Overview* Adapt Technology is a dynamic engineering and staffing firm based in the United States, specializing in comprehensive services including design, invention, scanning, prototyping, and production manufacturing.
