Machine Operator/Assembler
Entry-level machine operator. No experience required. Higher starting rate availible with relevant experience. The most essential requirements are the willingness to learn, to be reliable and to demenstrate good reading comprehension and basic math skills. The candidate must pass a drug test.
After a period of training, the job will include the following:
* Recording written data on work instructions consistent with ISO 9001:2015 standards.
* Inspecting jobs before, during, and after completion to ensure quality standards.
* Reading work instructions, numbers, and written correspondence to ensure understanding.
* Listening to the supervisor regarding special residual work instructions.
* Meeting standard times for work performed.
* Conforms to all GESCO safety policies.
Operates basic machinery under close supervision for which no dimensional tolerance or specific finish is required. (Flat grinding and polishing of Hub Cutters, Slitter Knives, and Vertical Rolls) Sets up a machine for grinding. Selects and mounts the correct grinding wheels. Calculates stock removal and proper shim size. Utilizes power tools such as a hand grinder, bench grinder, band saw, and drill press. Accurately uses precision measuring instruments (micrometers, indicators, and vernier calipers). Helps with machine maintenance, including, but not limited to, the checking and refilling of machine fluids.
With adequate experience and additional on-the-job training, a candidate will ideally reach the following level of performance:
Requires precision grinding to maintain tight dimensional tolerances. Requires 100% efficiency in operating machinery in one of the three following categories:
Mattison Grinding- maintains specified finish, squareness, and parallelism. . Re-grinds squaring shear knives, shear blades, and grinds shims to specifications. Capable of maintaining dimensional tolerances of +/-.001. (Wear plate grinding and critical size grinding.)
Bar Mill Grinding- Performs the set-up and taking down of the Bar Mill Fixture. Determines amounts of wear and stock removal. Properly executes selection and radius dressing of grinding wheels. Positions knives in a fixture to ensure straightness, squareness, and pass alignment. Drills, counterbores and attaches shims preparatory to grinding according to work instructions.
Outside Diameter Grinding- Performs outside diameter grinding of rolls, slitter knives, and stripper rings. Achieves proper finish, roundness, parallelism, concentricity, total indicator run-out, and dimensional tolerances to +/- .0005. Grinds rubber stripper rings maintaining the prescribed size relationship with slitter knives. Determines and corrects the accuracy of a mandrel. Consistently exercises the procedure to properly de-burr slitter knives.
