CDU was founded to address inadequate medical care in the region and to provide equitable medical education opportunities for under-represented students.CDU offers the only historically black Doctor of Medicine program west of the Mississippi and is strongly invested in the local and regional community. The university leads multiple partnerships and programs to provide equitable healthcare resources in a variety of south Los Angeles neighborhoods.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Teaching and InstructionTeach undergraduate and graduate courses in Cell & Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, and related disciplines; Microbiology and Infectious Diseases preferred.Design, revise, and assess courses in alignment with CDU curricula, learning outcomes, and accreditationEmploy inclusive, student-centered teaching strategies that support diverseParticipate in curriculum development, assessment, and continuous quality improvementResearch and Scholarly ActivityMaintain an active and productive research agenda aligned with departmental and institutionalSubmit competitive external grant applications and contribute to funded researchPublish in peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international conferencesIntegrate students into research and scholarlyStudent Mentoring and AdvisingMentor and advise undergraduate and graduate students on academic progress, research, and career developmentSupervise student research projects, theses, dissertations, and capstone experiences asService, Recruitment, and AdministrationParticipate in departmental, college, and university service and sharedContribute to student recruitment, outreach, and retentionAssist with accreditation, assessment, reporting, and programOther Duties and Responsibilities:Perform other related duties as assignedQualifications/Requirements:EDUCATION:A doctorate degree in a related field is requiredEXPERIENCE:Meet competency requirement (experience in content area within the last five years)A minimum of 3-5 years of related teaching experience is desiredA record of successful teaching experience in undergraduate and graduate programs is preferredKNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS:Commitment to student learning outcomes and evidence-based teaching practices. Knowledge of and interest in the university mission.A demonstrated sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities.Knowledge of computers and willingness to use multimedia instructional materials and computer-based educational platforms (Smart Board, Webct/Blackboard, Proctorio, university course management system Power Campus)Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.Demonstrated commitment to teaching, research, and community service. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Strong computer knowledge and skills.Ability to work with a diverse group of studentsAbility to establish and maintain a collegial working relationship with faculty and students. Ability to maintain safety in the laboratory setting.Knowledge of teaching and clinical practice in related field.Knowledge of current developments, trends, and complexities within related field and industry.
