Communications Specialist I

Position OverviewThe Communications Specialist under the supervision of the Communications Captain has the responsibility for quality customer service provided by TVEMS Communications Center. This role is not a 9-1-1 emergency dispatch position. It focuses on coordinating non-emergent ambulance transfers while managing multiple systems, incoming requests, and real-time updates.These job responsibilities should not be considered as the exclusive standard of the position; the role may include other responsibilities and duties as assigned to meet the needs of TVEMS.EMPLOYMENT STANDARDSEducation/Experience:Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:High School Diploma or GED; andPrior call intake experience, quality customer service and general computer experienceKnowledge:Radio communication, call intake, Microsoft Office programsSkills: Possess the ability to function successfully in a team environment; to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing; to set up and maintain records and files as required for effective position functions. The ideal candidate is comfortable handling several tasks at once without losing accuracy. They can prioritize effectively, communicate clearly with crews and facilities, and stay organized even when things get busy.Physical RequirementsBe able to perform such full range of body movement as bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, walking, running, lifting, climbing and sitting for prolonged periods of time.Technical Competencies:The incumbent must have general working knowledge of computer, telephone and radio use; acquire a working understanding of current TVEMS software functions.Behavioral Competencies:Must possess leadership skills to support TVEMS vision and mission. This position works four days on and four days off in rotating 12-hour shifts.Obtain all necessary information to be able to dispatch appropriate unit accordingly.Prioritize calls and schedule based on nature of request.Monitor personnel for accurate response and personnel safety.Maintain accurate logs as required for documentation.Set the example for performance and conduct.Participate in measuring, monitoring, evaluating and communicating quality findings and implementing solutions.In collaboration with company officers develops, recommends, and implements company procedures and processes.Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.WORKING ENVIRONMENTMaterial and Equipment Involved:Computer, printer, copier, telephone, and other types of office supplies and materials to generate reports and to retrieve and interpret data.Hazardous Exposure Category:Category III. - Involves no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, although situations can be hypothesized under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids.Lifting RequirementsLevel 2. Light work - Exerting up to 120 pounds of force occasionally (training manikins), and/or to 20 pounds frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are more than those for sedentary work.CompensationCompensation: This is an hourly, non-exempt position in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The annualized pay range for this role is $49,928-$59,160 based on full-time employment. The starting hourly rate will be determined based on experience, education, certifications, and qualifications.
