Database Administrator

At Wi‑Tronix, we’re transforming rail safety, performance, and operations through real-time insights and intelligent digital products. We’re looking for a highly skilled Database Administrator to ensure the performance, reliability, and security of our enterprise databases. In this role, you’ll support product development, lead key initiatives such as MySQL→PostgreSQL migration, modernize our cloud data infrastructure, and help enable advanced analytics. You’ll collaborate across DevOps, Product, and IT to drive scalable, high‑quality solutions.Core FunctionsAdminister, optimize, and secure SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and other database technologies across the organizationManage backups, monitoring, and disaster recovery to meet RPO/RTO objectivesTroubleshoot performance issues and optimize queries, indexes, and stored proceduresSupport the migration from MySQL to PostgreSQL and contribute to broader modernization effortsInstall, configure, and maintain SQL environments (on‑prem, AWS RDS)Build dashboards, reports, and data integrations (SSIS, SSRS)Partner with developers to define efficient data models and standardsProvide guidance on database best practices and emerging technologiesContribute to data architecture decisions across products and internal systemsParticipate in periodic on‑call support rotationPosition QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (Master’s a plus)6+ years database administration experienceStrong expertise with PostgreSQL, SQL Server (2014–2019), and relational database designExperience with AWS RDS, Redis, and virtualization environmentsProven success with performance tuning, indexing strategies, and T‑SQL optimizationExperience with high availability solutions (clustering, mirroring, Always On)Familiarity with MySQL, .NET, and third‑party SQL toolsExcellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skillsAgile mindset; able to work iteratively and adapt quicklyTechnology enthusiast who stays current with new tools and trendsWork EnvironmentHybrid schedule: Tues–Thurs in Bolingbrook officeMust be able to board a locomotive for field researchDomestic and international travel may be requiredWhy Wi‑Tronix?Because you’ll work on products that make railroads safer, smarter, and more sustainable around the world. This role requires the ability to begin work within approximately 1–2 weeks of offer acceptance and to be available for regular in-office collaboration. This position's anticipated base salary range is 86,000 to 117,000 . Final compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, and location. Hybrid: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are in-office days at our corporate office in Bolingbrook, IL.
