Join us-and be part of something built to last.Compensation: $30-40/hour depending on experienceLocation: Salt Lake City, UTFLSA Exemption: Non-ExemptSchedule: Full-time; hours may vary based on project needsBriefly explain job detailsCMT Technical Services is seeking a Surveying Crew Chief to perform and oversee field surveying and staking activities under the direction of the Survey Coordinator. This position is responsible for leading a survey crew in the field, ensuring accurate data collection and construction staking while maintaining strong communication with clients and project teams.The ideal candidate will have experience with field survey equipment, strong leadership skills, and the ability to manage daily surveying operations efficiently and safely.What You'll Be DoingPerform daily surveying and construction staking tasks as directed by the Survey CoordinatorLead and supervise survey crew members, including training and oversight of rodman or survey techniciansOperate survey equipment such as GPS, total stations, and data collectors to complete assigned workMaintain accurate daily field notes, journals, and time records for survey crew activitiesCommunicate project progress with clients and internal team members through daily check-in and check-out proceduresEnsure assigned work orders are completed accurately and efficientlyMaintain survey vehicles, equipment, and tools in clean and proper working conditionPromote a positive working relationship with clients, contractors, and team membersFollow company safety procedures and jobsite requirementsWhat you have:High school diploma or equivalent requiredMinimum 2+ years of experience in surveying or construction stakingStrong understanding of field survey practices and equipment operationAbility to read and follow written instructions, procedures, and perform basic calculationsValid driver's license with acceptable driving recordAbility to work outdoors and travel to project sites as requiredStrong communication, organization, and leadership skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamWhat will make you stand out:Experience leading or supervising a survey crew in construction or civil projectsFamiliarity with GPS surveying equipment, total stations, and data collection softwareExperience performing construction staking, boundary surveys, and topographic surveysStrong client communication and problem-solving skillsCommitment to safety, quality, and teamworkPreferred Certification(s):Certified Survey Technician (CST) - Level I or IIAdditional surveying or geomatics certificationsCMT Technical Services offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including medical benefits and a 401(k) plan.CMT Technical Services is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
