We value clarity, accuracy, communication, and a calm, professional client experience.We are hiring a Client Accounting Manager to lead our bookkeeping department, support clients with confidence, and help us deliver a consistent, high‑quality experience as we scale.Position OverviewThe Client Accounting Manager is the primary point of contact for bookkeeping clients and the leader of our internal bookkeeping team. This role manages workflow, conducts month‑end reviews, meets with clients, answers day‑to‑day questions, and ensures all bookkeeping work meets firm standards. You will take over the operational and client‑management responsibilities currently handled by the owner.This is a part‑time role (10–15 hours/week) with room to grow. Flexible schedule with some client‑facing availability required. Reports directly to the owner and oversees bookkeeping staff.Key ResponsibilitiesClient Management & CommunicationServe as the main contact for bookkeeping clientsLead monthly client meetings and month‑end reviewsRecord short video explanations for clientsProvide light analysis (trends, variances, key observations)Respond to client questions promptly and professionallyMaintain an educational, supportive toneEnsure clients feel informed and confident in their numbersTeam Leadership & OversightReview and approve all bookkeeping workEnsure accuracy and consistency across client filesTroubleshoot issues and research accounting questionsMaintain and enforce SOPs and workflowsApply GAAP principles in reviewsUse strong problem‑solving skills to resolve discrepanciesWorkflow ManagementManage and support part‑time bookkeepersAssign tasks and monitor progressEnsure efficient workflow across the client portfolioCollaborate with the owner to improve processesMonth‑End & ReportingConduct month‑end close reviewsDeliver clean, accurate financial statementsIdentify discrepancies or trends and communicate clearlyEnsure reporting aligns with firm standardsClient Onboarding & TransitionsLead bookkeeping onboarding for new clientsReview prior books and identify cleanup needsCoordinate cleanup tasks with bookkeepersSet expectations and ensure smooth transitionsBook Cleanups & Historical CorrectionsLead cleanup projects for new and existing clientsIdentify errors, inconsistencies, or missing transactionsDevelop cleanup plans and delegate tasksApply GAAP‑aligned solutions to correct recordsCommunicate findings clearly and educationallyEnsure clean, reliable financials moving forwardMinimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field3–5 years of bookkeeping or accounting experienceStrong competency with QuickBooks Online and ExcelAbility to research accounting practices and apply GAAPStrong understanding of small‑business bookkeeping and month‑end processesExperience managing or reviewing bookkeepers preferredNonprofit/fund accounting experience is a plusExcellent written, verbal, and video communication skillsComfortable explaining financial concepts to clientsHighly organized, detail‑oriented, and able to manage multiple clientsProfessional, calm, supportive demeanorAbility to work independently and proactivelyPreference given to NH‑based candidates for occasional in‑person meetingsPreferred QualitiesLoves structure, systems, and checklistsEnjoys teaching and simplifying financial conceptsThrives in a collaborative but independent environmentValues accuracy, clarity, and consistencyComfortable giving and receiving feedbackExcited to help improve internal processes and support firm growthHow to ApplyEmail the following to rmschofield@balancesheetbookkeepingllc.com:ResumeCover letter explaining your job history, why you want this role, and what excites you about accounting2–3 professional references (contacted only if you are a finalist)
