Transportation Assistant (Hazardous)DutiesPerforms freight shipment, transportation, and supply support functions for movements which are world-wide to aerial ports or CONUS.Initiates, verifies, and tracks Material Release Orders and exception requisitions from customer request through dispatch, coordinating with all handling entities.Selects shipment modes, arranges routing, manages urgent deliveries, and secures efficient, cost-effective carrier services for domestic and international shipments.Responds to inquiries, supplies shipment status, resolves issues, and supports the Emergency Supply Operations Center through call center.Investigates delays, cancellations, rejects, and over-aged Material Release Orders; corrects records; closes histories; and compiles data to identify causes and trends.Conducts post-audits, prepayment audits, and carrier terminal inspections; corrects documentation; redirects shipments; and ensures accurate charges and credits.Packs, labels, documents, and certifies hazardous materials for shipment in compliance with transportation regulations, ensuring proper handling and storage.Initiates, verifies, and completes documentation for air, surface, and vessel movement of hazardous freight using required specialized training and regulatory knowledge.Requirements Conditions of employmentMust be a U.S. citizenTour of Duty: Set ScheduleSecurity Requirements: Non-Critical Sensitive with Secret AccessAppointment is subject to the completion of a favorable suitability or fitness determination, where reciprocity cannot be applied; unfavorably adjudicated background checks will be grounds for removal.Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): Exempt/Non-ExemptSelective Service Requirement: Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.Recruitment Incentives: Not AuthorizedBargaining Unit Status: YesPre-Employment Physical: RequiredSelectees are required to have a REAL ID or other acceptable identification documents to access certain federal facilities. Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid MHE license.Must be able to obtain and maintain required hazardous materials handling certifications.Qualifications To qualify for a Transportation Assistant (Hazardous), your resume and supporting documentation must support: A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-07 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector Applicants must meet eligibility requirements, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes:Preparing, initiating, verifying, and tracking Material Release Orders and ensuring accurate shipment documentationSelecting shipment modes, arranging routing, and communicating with carriers to support transportation coordinationInvestigating delays, cancellations, and errors, updating supply systems, and ensuring compliance with shipment discrepancy resolution.
