Director of Safety, Security, & TrainingThe Director of Safety, Security & Training is a high-impact leadership opportunity to shape a culture where safety, security, and accountability come first. Reporting to the General Manager, you will lead all safety, compliance, emergency preparedness, and training programs within a unionized transit operation.This role offers the chance to drive meaningful change, protect employees and passengers, and influence operational excellence across the organization. The above represents the standard Corporate Policy.Key ResponsibilitiesDirect all accident, incident, and security investigations involving employees, passengers, vehicles, and company propertyEnsure investigations are timely, well-documented, and compliant with collective bargaining agreementsMaintain full compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, EPA, ADA, and applicable federal, state, local, and client regulationsLead audit readiness efforts, regulatory reporting, and compliance documentationServe as the primary liaison to regulatory agencies, RTC representatives, and public safety partnersOversee and continuously improve safety management systems, policies, and proceduresSystem Security & Emergency PreparednessLead the development, implementation, and maintenance of:System Security & Emergency Preparedness PlansPublic Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP)Emergency Action Plans and supporting documentationCoordinate emergency preparedness activities in partnership with RTC and external agenciesRepresent the organization at monthly security meetings and special RTC sessionsPlan, coordinate, and participate in emergency drills, exercises, and real-world response activitiesEnsure alignment with federal, state, and local emergency management frameworks (including ICS/NIMS)Coordinate internal teams and external stakeholders to support preparedness and response effortsArrange for appropriate operational assets and personnel during preparedness activitiesTraining & Workforce DevelopmentOversee classroom, field, and behind-the-wheel training programsEnsure all training records, certifications, and qualification files are audit-readyImplement refresher, remedial, and compliance-based training programsDrive Driver Safety Performance Review Programs aligned with progressive discipline policiesEnsure full compliance with federal and company substance abuse and testing programsRisk Management & Claims CoordinationOversee workers' compensation, liability claims, and incident reporting processesPartner with HR and union leadership on return-to-work and light-duty programsImplement risk mitigation strategies and safety performance tracking toolsLead safety recognition and engagement programs to reinforce a strong safety cultureQualificationsBachelor's degree in Business, Public Administration, Safety Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)Minimum 5+ years of transit safety, security, or emergency preparedness experienceMinimum 4+ years of leadership experience in a unionized environmentStrong knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, EPA, ADA, and public transit regulationsDemonstrated experience interpreting and applying collective bargaining agreementsStrong investigative, analytical, and reporting skillsExcellent communication skills with the ability to engage executives, union leadership, and frontline employeesProfessional safety certificationValid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) (or ability to obtain)Preferred / Specialized Certifications & ExperienceSuccessful qualification in the Transit Safety and Security Program (TSSP) administered by the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) Transportation Safety Institute (TSI)Completion of at least four (4) transit-related courses through TSI and/or the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)Completion of Incident Command System (ICS) training at the 300/400 level or higherOSHA 30-hour certificationMinimum four (4) years of direct experience in transit safety, security, or emergency preparedness programsExperience supporting or coordinating with RTC or similar governing transit authoritiesExperience leading safety and security programs across large, multi-site transit operationsPhysical & Work EnvironmentA combination of office and field-based work in transit operational settingsRegular exposure to vehicles, maintenance facilities, weather conditions, noise, and active traffic environmentsAbility to sit for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 25 lbsFlexibility to respond to emergencies and operational needs outside standard business hoursAdditional InformationDrug-Free Workplace:Transdev maintains a drug-free workplace.
