Lead Software Engineer (Intelligence Center)
Overview
In this role you will deliver modern software capabilities and champion secure, scalable architecture to support national space missions. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to shape technical strategy and roadmaps, prioritizing customer-centric outcomes. You’ll design and operate data workflows, build resilient backend services, and lead architecture reviews to raise engineering standards. This is a mission-driven role at MITRE’s National Space Program, focused on reducing risk and accelerating space modernization. You will influence the tech stack and governance while mentoring engineers and delivering impact for critical national missions.
ResponsibilitiesDeliver modern software capabilities with focus on secure coding, maintainable design, and reliable testingCollaborate with UX, Architecture, Data, Security, and Operations to define strategy and roadmapsChampion architectural excellence across cloud-native, event-driven and microservices patternsDesign and integrate backend services and RESTful APIs for mission workflowsBuild and operate data pipelines (ETL/ELT) and analytics-enabled data publishingDevelop data models and database access patterns (PostgreSQL/MongoDB) including migrationsImplement containerized deployments (Docker/Kubernetes) and deployment patternsEngineer DevSecOps/CI/CD pipelines with security and quality gatesProvision Linux environments with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/Ansible) for reproducible deploymentsCreate high-quality design docs, runbooks, and lead reviews; mentor engineers and raise standards
