State of Alaska Type A Certificate with endorsement in Special EducationBachelor's Degree required with Master's Degree preferred.SPECIFIC DUTIES:1. To assist in the screening and testing of students for potential learningproblems.2. To observe and describe academic and social behaviors of studentsexperiencing significant learning problems.3. To use various diagnostic tools to identify specific educational and behavioralproblems of eligible students.4. To collect data and interpret relevant information from various sources on achild's performance.5. To assist in designing goals and objectives for the Individualized EducationProgram with other Team Members.6. To select and/or modify instructional methods to promote successfullearning of certified students.7. To confer with all individuals, including the students, when appropriate, indeveloping an Individualized Education Program.To implement specific educational and/or behavioral programsTo assist in implementing educational and/or behavioral programs within theregular education classroom when appropriate.To assist in implementing inservice programs concerning instructional programming for the integrating of students into regular education classroom.To develop and manage the special education programs in collaboration withgeneral education12. To provide appropriate instruction for identified students as specified inindividual IEP's13. To work as a part of the school team on school improvement and otheractivities14. To coordinate Special Education services within the building or village site,which ever is appropriate15. To attain and complete all necessary records on students who are referred tospecial education and receive special education services.16. To assure the implementation of IDEA in addition to the State of AlaskaSpecial Education Regulations.17. To assure parents of students with disabilities receive parental rights and dueprocess and are knowledgeable of these rights and procedures.18. To utilize the services of an interpreter when holding parent conferences,when appropriate.Monitor and supervise the Special Education paraprofessionals.To assist in the distribution of information regarding Child Find activities tothe community and school staff.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities1. Requires ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements, Board of Education practices, Alaska State Laws, and Department of Education and Early Development regulations and Alaska Teacher Code of Ethics.Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as curricula guides and materials and testing protocols. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before colleagues. Ability to speak Yupik beneficial.Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply mathematical functions in routine classroom situations such as calculation of grades.Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems in a professional manner.Computer Skills and Abilities: Requires knowledge and ability to operate a variety of software on computers. Experience with Mac platform, Powerschool, and email systems beneficial.Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to develop effective working relationships with Board of Education, superintendent, colleagues, students and community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
