Kindergarten Instructional Assistant (2026-2027) - Old Mill Elementary
Join us for the 2026-2027 school year!Old Mill Elementary is looking for a caring, positive, energetic candidate that will assist a certified teacher in providing instruction to individuals and small groups; as well as monitor student progress.Assistant will be responsible for helping the K teachers with class instruction and other duties such as working with small groups of children to reinforce lessons, providing one-on-one instruction to students and supervising students in the classroom. Applicant must be a positive, compassionate individual who is passionate about working with young children.-Proficient in leading small group reading interventions.-Organized in order to ensure proper monitoring and reporting of student progress.-Positive attitude.-Demonstrates strong work ethic including attendance and punctuality.-Cooperative.-Patient.-Flexible.-Team player.-Demonstrates the ability to follow the directions of the principal and instructional coach.-Willingness to support PBIS expectations.Position DetailsHours: 6.25 hours per day (plus a 30-minute unpaid lunch)Contract Length: 183 days per year170 student instructional days4 holidays7 planning days2 extended daysContract Adjustments: Contracted days will be prorated based on the start dateEmployment Status: Full-time with benefitsEmployment Type: 10-month employee on the classified pay scheduleQualifications & RequirementsEducation: Must meet one of the following:48 college semester hoursAn Associate's Degree ORHigh school diploma plus a passing score on the Paraeducator Assessment Exam.Documentation: Candidates must provide proof of educational requirements to HR upon recommendation for hire.Compensation & Experience CreditSalary for the 2026-2027 school year will be based on Board approved salary schedule.2025-2026 Pay ScaleStarting Pay (Step 0): $15.98/hourExperienced Pay (Step 10): $19.67/hourWe value experience! Previous experience working with students, intervention systems, and small-group instruction is strongly desired.New hires may bring up to 10 years of comparable, full-time, verified experience.The hired applicant is responsible for submitting the BCPS Verification of Experience Form to prior employers for completion and return to HR.Payroll Note: While this is an hourly position, the salary is distributed via a year-long contract over 10 months. You will receive 4 paychecks at the end of June.Salary Formula: Hours per day × Hourly rate = Daily rate Daily rate × Contracted days = Annual salary.
