EHS Manager
Role OverviewAshland Specialty Ingredients is seeking an Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager to join our team at Ashland LLC in Hopewell, VA. This highly visible role reports to the EHS Center of Excellence (COE) and leads EHS strategy and operations across the site.ResponsibilitiesProvide transformational leadership to foster management commitment and employee ownership of EHS, enhance site culture and performance.Partner with site leadership to develop and implement EHS objectives, targets, and strategies; establish and maintain safety committees to prioritize and mitigate risks.Analyze EHS data and incident investigations using strong analytical skills; communicate findings clearly to all organizational levels.Apply effective problem-solving and decision-making to develop multiple solutions and make well-informed recommendations to improve safety outcomes.Coordinate and deliver mandatory employee EHS training and additional sessions tailored for leadership.Review and direct all environmental permits and EHS regulatory reports to ensure compliance and audit readiness; act as primary liaison with regulatory agencies; manage permit renewals and audits.Provide day-to-day leadership and oversight of salary, hourly, and contract EHS personnel (minimum of five direct reports).Ensure robust change-management processes to adapt to evolving EHS standards.Lead comprehensive incident management, including timely reporting, thorough investigations, and corrective/preventive action implementation.Review, revise, and update site EHS procedures and standards to maintain regulatory compliance and align with corporate standards.QualificationsBachelor of Science in Industrial Hygiene, Safety, Environmental Science, Environmental, Chemical, or Process Engineering, or related field.Minimum 10 years of experience in EHS within industrial or manufacturing environments, including chemical manufacturing.Minimum 2 years of managerial or leadership experience.In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, PSM, RMP, and other applicable regulations.Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and EHS management software such as VelocityEHS.Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure and adapt quickly to shifting demands.Preferred SkillsCertified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Certified Environmental Professional (CEP).Willingness to obtain Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.Experience working in a union environment.HAZWOPER certification.Experience in Emergency Response & Incident Command.Experience in root cause investigation and corrective action implementation.Demonstrated success in implementing site-level sustainability initiatives.Track record of managing environmental compliance and improvement projects.EEO StatementAshland is an Equal Opportunity Employer Minorities/Women/Veterans/Disabled/Gender Identity/Sexual Orientation.
