This role develops a mature safety culture that supports production by reducing disruptions, rework, and risk-driven downtime, while building a workforce that trusts the system, and supports environmental, health, and safety activities across a multi-site business unit with facilities in San Diego, California, and Madison, Wisconsin. This onsite role can be based out of either our San Diego, CA, or Madison, WI facility with 30% travel expected between both sites.Job ResponsibilitiesEnsure that all aspects of site environmental, health and safety are managed in compliance with applicable laws and in conformance with the DRS EH&S PolicyEnsure that a proactive safety programs developed and implemented, complete with metricsInterface with and manage relationships with all applicable government and regulatory agenciesManaging site performance and contract commitments to deliver continuous performanceLead teams in the risk assessment processOversee and deliver all related EHS development and training programsMaintain required procedures, plans, training materials and related documents to ensure audit readiness at any timeAdditional responsibilities include providing EHS audit services, as well as project management and training as requiredSupport, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organizationLeading the participation by business leaders in administering the day-to-day aspects of Environmental, Health and Safety managementActing as an advocate for Green Initiatives within the organizationAs requested, serving as the emergency coordinator for the siteMaintaining relationships with regulatory agencies having jurisdiction over the facility(ies)Laser Safety RequirementsWorking knowledge of ANSI Z136.1 (Safe Use of Lasers) and applicable OSHA/state laser safety regulationsExperience establishing or administering a laser safety program in a manufacturing or R&D environment, including Class 4 laser systemsAbility to serve as, or provide qualified oversight of, a Laser Safety Officer (LSO) including hazard evaluation, Nominal Hazard Zone (NHZ) determination, control-measure selection, and controlled-area designCompetence in laser-specific controls: interlocks, protective eyewear selection (OD/wavelength matching), signage, beam management, and operator training/authorizationFamiliarity with laser incident investigation and medical surveillance requirementsFormal LSO certification (e.g., BLS/LIA Certified Laser Safety Officer) preferred, or willingness to obtain within a defined periodQualificationsBS degree in Environmental Science or related field required with a minimum of 5 years of experience in EHS in a manufacturing environment, as well as a proven record of success developing, implementing and managing effective EH&S programsManagement experience and superior teamwork skills are essential as is the ability to lead and build teams and to effectively identify and resolve conflictsStrong communication, organization and negotiation skills are mandatoryMust have excellent PC-based computer skillsExperience with OSHA and annual compliance training strongly preferredU.S. Citizenship required. This position requires an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.The salary range for this position is $108,307/year - $178,111/year. This range reflects the good faith estimate of pay the employer is willing to offer at the time of posting. Several factors can influence the pay scale, including but not limited to: Federal contract labor categories and contract wage rates, collective bargaining agreements, geographic location, business considerations, scope, and responsibilities of the position, local or other applicable market conditions, and internal equity.
