Position Title: ControllerThe Controller plays a pivotal role in managing the financial operations and accounting functions of a law firm focused on contingency cases. This position requires a seasoned professional with extensive experience in accounting, specifically within the legal sector. The Controller will oversee a team while ensuring compliance with financial regulations and maintaining accuracy in financial reporting. This role offers the opportunity to contribute significantly to the firm's financial strategy and growth.Salary Range: $200,000 - $250,000 / Year DOEController ResponsibilitiesDirect all accounting functions including billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reportingPrepare monthly and year-end financial reports and manage the financial processesCoordinate external audit materials and financial reportingPrepare annual budgets and monitor financial performanceManage trust account activities and ensure compliance with financial controlsOversee payroll processes and benefits administrationLead accounting staff, providing training and development opportunitiesParticipate in strategic planning and process improvementsManage firm operations and physical facilitiesAct as the point of contact for new case setups and accounting projectsController RequirementsAt least 7 years of accounting experience with a minimum of 5 years as a Controller5 years of experience in a law firm on the plaintiff side, with knowledge of contingency billingExperience with online/web-based accounting software and QuickBooksAdvanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and lookupsKnowledge of state and jurisdictional tax laws, particularly California and New YorkBachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalentCertified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Legal Manager (CLM) is preferredSHRM or equivalent certification is preferredBenefits401K with a 3% matchMedical, dental, and vision coverage15 days of vacation and 7 days of paid sick leavePaid holidays and semi-monthly compensationIf you are a Controller looking to take the next step in your career, apply now!
