Construction Bookkeeper
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Construction Bookkeeper to manage day-to-day accounting functions within a project-based environment. This role requires a high level of accuracy, consistency, and strict adherence to deadlines. You will be responsible for maintaining organized financial records, executing timely progress billing, and ensuring collections and contract compliance are handled with discipline and follow-through.
The ideal candidate has strong experience with QuickBooks, is confident managing collections, and operates with a structured, process-driven approach to work.
Duties
Accounts Receivable & Collections
Own accounts receivable, including invoicing, payment application, and account reconciliation
Execute consistent and timely collections follow-up on past-due accounts
Monitor aging reports and ensure no outstanding balances go unmanaged
Maintain accurate records of all collection activity and customer communication
Resolve discrepancies quickly to avoid delays in payment
Progress Billing & Compliance
Prepare and submit progress billing (including AIA billing) accurately and on schedule
Ensure billing aligns with contract terms, project progress, and compliance requirements
Track and manage retentions, change orders, and contract values with precision
Maintain documentation to support audit readiness and contract compliance
Meet all billing deadlines without exception
Job Costing & Financial Tracking
Maintain accurate job cost entries and project-level financial tracking
Ensure all costs are properly coded and aligned with project budgets
Support internal reporting with reliable and well-organized financial data
General Bookkeeping
Perform bank and credit card reconciliations on a consistent schedule
Maintain clean and accurate records within QuickBooks
Support accounts payable processes in coordination with purchasing
Assist with month-end close, ensuring deadlines are met and data is accurate
Qualifications
3–6+ years of bookkeeping experience, preferably in construction or project-based environments
Strong hands-on experience with QuickBooks
Proven experience managing collections and accounts receivable
Experience with progress billing required
Familiarity with job costing and construction accounting practices
Strong attention to detail and ability to work within structured processes
Ability to meet strict deadlines consistently without supervision
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
