DescriptionAre you a student looking to enhance your understanding of a career in public safety? The Geneva Police Department has internships available this summer!This valuable learning opportunity allows students to gain work experience, on-the-job training, and an opportunity to develop a professional network for the future positions within the law enforcement profession.The College Student Internship Program is designed to provide students with an opportunity to integrate theory and practice by working alongside sworn police officers. The internship will be an unpaid, non-sworn position that varies from as little as 8 hours per week to as many as, but no more than, 40 hours per week over the course of the summer.Examples of DutiesInterns will gain exposure to a wide variety of police duties that may include special events, specialized training details, special assignments, bike patrol, foot patrol, and meetings.Interns will only take an active role in a situation at the specific direction of a sworn Geneva police officer.All of the requirements, including scheduling, must be agreed to by the Geneva Police Department, the intern applicant, and the college/university (if applicable) the internship starts. Requirements can and will vary based upon the college/university program.Typical QualificationsApplicants must currently be enrolled in a college or university program for criminal justice, emergency management, or similar field.Availability to work throughout the summer months (May - August) is required as well, although the start and end dates of the internship are flexible based on the candidate's availability and school schedule.Candidates must have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.Supplemental InformationTo apply, please submit an application along with any supplemental documents such as a cover letter, resume, etc. through NeoGov.
