Job SummaryRed Hat's Automotive Kernel Engineering team is looking for a Linux Kernel Software Engineer to join us on Red Hat's In-Vehicle Operating System. In this role you will be part of a growing team focused on Linux Kernel development for use in automotive, real-time and Edge applications, providing hardware enablement for new Arm platforms.What you will doBackport upstream features and fixes to our In-Vehicle Operating System releasesInvestigate how the kernel and other components support Functional SafetyWork with Red Hat colleagues and platform vendors bringing up and tuning new embedded platformsCreate and maintain kernel packagesCollaborate in the automotive partner ecosystemCollaborate with the Engineering, Quality Engineering, Product Management, Documentation, and product build teamsParticipate and collaborate with the open source community, especially the broader upstream Linux communityHave fun!What you will bringExpertise in Linux device driver development, board bring-up, kernel boot optimizationFamiliarity with Device TreeFamiliarity with Git and upstream Linux kernel patch posting procedures, experience with upstream developmentExperience with backporting upstream code to Linux distributions, kernel configuration, building, and testingFamiliarity with embedded systems and their ecosystemsExcellent English verbal and written communication skillsAbility to work on your own in a small team environmentAbility to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasksExcellent problem-solving skills and attention to detailExcellent collaboration and communication skillsThe following are considered a plusExpertise in one or more kernel subsystems that is verifiable through upstream discussions/contributions postsFamiliarity in early boot flow of Arm processorsExperience working with chip manufacturers, automotive manufacturers, tier 1 suppliersExperience with Functional Safety conceptsExperience with network device driversExperience with Linux kernel PREEMPT_RTExperience with Fedora, CentOS and RHELExperience with debugging Linux kernel issuesExperience with grub, uboot, UEFIPay TransparencyThe salary range for this position is $108,760.00 - $173,800.00.
