Carpenter Apprentice

The Truss Technician is responsible for assembling, building, and inspecting wood roof and floor trusses in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This position requires the ability to read truss designs and production drawings, accurately measure and position lumber and components, and safely operate hand and power tools. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-minded, mechanically inclined, and comfortable performing physically demanding work while maintaining a high level of accuracy and quality. Key Responsibilities * Assemble roof and floor trusses according to engineered plans, blueprints, and production specifications. * Read and interpret truss layouts, diagrams, measurements, and work orders. * Measure, cut, position, and align lumber and other truss components accurately. * Install metal connector plates using presses or pneumatic equipment. * Operate hand tools, power tools, saws, nail guns, and other production equipment as required. * Inspect completed trusses for proper dimensions, alignment, connections, and overall quality. * Identify defective lumber, damaged materials, or improperly assembled components and correct issues when possible. * Maintain consistent production rates while meeting company quality standards. * Safely move and position lumber and finished trusses throughout the production area. * Follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements. * Maintain a clean and organized work area. * Communicate with supervisors and other team members regarding production issues, material shortages, or drawing discrepancies. * Perform routine equipment checks and report mechanical or safety concerns. * Assist with loading, stacking, bundling, and preparing completed trusses for shipment as needed. * Perform other duties related to truss manufacturing and production as assigned. Qualifications * Previous experience in a truss plant, lumber manufacturing facility, construction, carpentry, or another industrial production environment preferred. * Ability to read and understand measurements, production drawings, and basic blueprints. * Basic understanding of fractions, measurements, and dimensions. * Comfortable using hand tools and power tools. * Ability to work safely around machinery and moving materials. * Strong attention to detail and ability to produce consistent, accurate work. * Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic. * Ability to work effectively as part of a production team. * Previous experience with pneumatic nail guns, saws, presses, or truss-building equipment is a plus. Physical Requirements * Ability to stand and work for extended periods. * Ability to frequently bend, stoop, reach, kneel, and lift. * Ability to lift and carry lumber and other materials weighing up to approximately 50 pounds. * Ability to work in a physically demanding manufacturing environment. * Ability to work around noise, dust, wood products, and industrial equipment. * Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE). Schedule & Work Environment This is a hands-on manufacturing position performed primarily on the production floor. The Truss Technician will work alongside other production employees and must be able to maintain productivity while following strict safety and quality standards.
