DevOps Engineer

Overview: The DevOps Engineer is an integral member of the project team and serves as both a technical leader and operational coordinator across the full project lifecycle. This role is deeply involved in planning, execution, testing, deployment, and sustainment activities and provides hands-on leadership in Agile project management and SCRUM facilitation. The DevOps Engineer will play a pivotal role in supporting the testing, deployment, and ongoing operation of legacy and next-generation data solutions serving the U.S. Air Force Acquisition community. This position blends project management, configuration management, and infrastructure administration, with a strong emphasis on security, compliance, and operational stability in a regulated DoD environment. The ideal candidate is a self-directed problem solver who thrives in collaborative, mission-driven teams; communicates effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders; and is comfortable balancing leadership responsibilities with hands-on technical work. Key Responsibilities: Project Management & Agile Leadership Lead and support Agile project execution, including issue creation, backlog management, and work breakdown structure development. Facilitate daily SCRUMs, track progress across multiple work streams, and proactively identify and remove impediments. Coordinate with the Program Manager on task assignments, priorities, and delivery schedules. Coach team members on project ownership, collaboration, and accountability. Report project status, risks, and accomplishments during recurring meetings and in formal progress reports. Promote team successes and address performance concerns in a constructive, professional manner. Configuration Management & Release Management Oversee the configuration management (CM) process from requirements through release, ensuring adherence to documented procedures and compliance standards. Maintain and improve CM processes in coordination with program leadership as technologies and requirements evolve. Manage and maintain code repositories, release artifacts, and automation supporting the CM pipeline. Execute formal releases, verifying that all required components, documentation, and approvals are complete. Educate and mentor team members on configuration management best practices and release discipline. Infrastructure Support & Security Monitor and administer server operating systems, databases, and layered application components. Troubleshoot infrastructure issues and coordinate with data center support teams through formal ticketing processes. Perform approved operating system and database administration tasks. Monitor vulnerability scans, cyber tasking orders, and system health indicators. Apply patches and updates to servers, databases, layered applications, and developer workstations as required. Ensure compliance with DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG) and Computer Network Defense (CND) requirements. Collaborate closely with the Program ISSM to maintain security posture and accreditation readiness. Qualifications: Education Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, or a related field or equivalent experience in accordance with DoD substitution guidelines (education may be substituted with directly related experience). Experience Experience serving in one or more of the following roles: Software developer or engineer (procedural and object-oriented technologies) Infrastructure or systems administrator (operating systems and databases) IT project manager or Agile team lead Configuration manager or DevOps engineer Strong understanding of enterprise IT environments, technology stacks, and system integration. Experience working in regulated or security-focused environments. Ability to research, evaluate, and implement solutions across the IT infrastructure. Certifications: CompTIA Security+ (required) Additional certifications in Oracle, DevOps tools, cloud platforms, or infrastructure technologies are highly desirable.
