Job SummaryProvides semi-skilled general labor services associated with landscaping, construction, maintenance, and repair work on facilities, fixtures, and equipment.Minimum QualificationsOne (1) year of closely related experience in a field related to delivery service, custodial, grounds, or construction maintenance.A valid Driver's License accepted by the State of Utah is required at the time of hire. A valid Driver's License issued by the State of Utah must be obtained within six (6) months of hire to operate a County vehicle.Some Departments may require a current Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) Medical Card at the time of hire AND/OR attainment of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of hire.Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must pass a required background check through fingerprinting and enrollment in the continuous RAP Back (Record of Arrest and Prosecution Back) program in accordance with current County Human Resources policy requirements.Must receive a verified negative test result on a mandatory drug test before starting in this position. Will be subject to random alcohol and drug testing. May be subject to post-accident and reasonable suspicion alcohol and drug testing.Essential FunctionsTransports and operates light, medium, and heavy-duty equipment.Operates and performs general maintenance on facility service vehicles and custodial and grounds equipment.Maintains facility grounds, including cutting grass, weeding, watering, aerating, fertilizing, seeding turf, installing and maintaining sprinkler systems, trimming shrubbery, and snow removal.Maintains and operates assigned hand tools, power tools, and equipment.Prepares a variety of routine records and reports, and maintains records of work requests, routine equipment maintenance, and safety records.Assists with loading and unloading dock deliveries and shipments.Assists trade personnel in performing diverse construction and maintenance tasks.Remains alert for facility issues that could pose safety or security risks.Picks up and distributes cleaning supplies within facilities.Assembles/disassembles, designs, relocates, and repairs Steelcase partitions, workstations, shelving, and other office furniture.Changes exterior and parking lot lights, performs parking lot striping, and performs roof maintenance and window cleaning.Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities (ksa)Knowledge ofMethods, materials, tools, and equipment necessary to perform facilities and grounds construction, maintenance, and repair workGrounds maintenance and gardening (care of flowers, shrubs, trees, fertilizing, etc.)Preventative maintenance techniquesStandard Safety Practices and procedures common to facilities and grounds constructionGeneral knowledge of contracting methods, such as building and framing walls, plumbing, electrical, painting, carpentry, and the safety procedures associated with all these proceduresProper hand and power tools needed for assigned tasks, their usage, and safety measures when using themCleaning methods and techniques, sanitation principles, fire codes, and proper use of cleaning chemicals and suppliesProper safety measures and precautions to take when working in buildings and around the publicGeneral geography of Salt Lake CountySkills and Abilities to Respond to public and co-workers' inquiries in a courteous and positive mannerOperate and maintain equipment and tools needed to accomplish assigned tasksInteract and communicate effectively with other trade professionals, facility staff, and the publicAct and work independently with minimum supervision, make decisions, and prioritize tasksFollow written and verbal instructions and proceduresPrepare and maintain proper records and reportsWorking Conditions And Physical RequirementsThis position requires extensive physical labor; lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects over 50 pounds (occasionally up to 100 pounds with some assistance) kneeling, bending, sitting, and standing. The work involves exposure to extreme weather conditions, dirt, dust, heat, cold, chemicals, smoke, and/or loud noises.IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THIS POSITIONWork schedules and hazards vary. May be required to work holidays, nights, weekends, or special events as needed. May be required to work non-typical hours.Positions within the Salt Lake County Jail (a locked-down facility) involve direct contact with prisoners and may expose staff to stress due to human behavior in a jail environment.
