Full-time DescriptionJob Type: Full-timeJob Title: Legal Navigator/Workshop LeaderExemption: Non-ExemptReports to: Program DirectorProgram: Legal Support Center - Special Initiative for New ArrivalsCompensation: $47,000-$60,000 per yearThis position ends on 6/30/2027Center for Family Life in Sunset Park (CFLSP), a nationally-recognized social service program in Sunset Park Brooklyn, is seeking a full-time Immigration Navigator/Workshop Leader to work in our Immigration Legal Support Center, (formerly ActionNYC) a program in partnership with the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (MOIA) providing free legal assistance to immigrants. The Immigration Navigator will provide pro se paralegal assistance and workshops on emergency preparedness/guardianship planning to immigrants in Sunset Park and throughout New York City under the supervision of an attorney. The Legal Navigator will be member of our Special Initiative for New Arrivals team which provides benefits enrollment, employment services and legal assistance to new immigrants. This is an excellent position for anyone who would like to prepare for an application to law school or to advance their career in paralegal work.I. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, But Are Not Limited ToProvide pro se assistance to new immigrants eligible for relief including Asylum, Temporary Protected Status, Work Authorization, Special Immigration Juvenile Status, among others under the supervision of an attorneyConduct comprehensive, trauma informed intakes for eligibility for immigration reliefAssist clients to obtain the documents necessary for applicationsCoordinate and facilitate two workshops per month on emergency preparedness and guardianship planning utilizing a standard curriculumWork closely with the Special Initiative team to provide integrated services to shared clientsRefer clients with immigration legal needs outside of the scope of the program and non-immigration legal needs including wage and hour, tenants' rights, and othersParticipate in community based events to outreach and provide informationProvide services on-site and in community locations as neededComplete comprehensive immigration legal training and attend ongoing professional development trainingComplete all required documentation and maintain case filesTrack outcomes and complete required data entryAttend staff meetings and supervisionCollaborate with all CFLSP programs to provide wraparound services and provide additional social services referrals as neededOpportunity to become a BIA (Board of Immigration Appeals) Accredited Representative contingent on completion of training and eligibilityOther duties as assignedIi. QualificationsBachelor’s degree preferred; or equivalent professional and/or community experienceBilingual in Spanish and English requiredPrevious experience with community service and/or immigration preferredProficient in data entry and MS Office toolsFlexibility to work independentlyEffective written and verbal communications skillsExcellent interpersonal and organizational skillsExperience working with diverse individuals and communitiesAvailability for occasional evening/weekend work to attend community eventsInitiative and drive to learn and excel at the responsibilities described aboveIii.
