Please do not apply if you can't work directly for usRemote with paid travel (less that 10%)Preference for hybrid candidate with part of time physically at Surry (per-diem)Flexibility for full remote for the right candidate, but occasional travel will be needed for site walkdowns and stakeholder meetingsHigh Level Project Overview:The candidate will fill a position as an I&C Project Engineer for the Surry Digital I&C Program. The Digital I&C project is a 10+ year effort as part of Subsequent License Renewal (SLR) to upgrade safety and non-safety-related analog systems to state-of-the-art digital technology and modernize the main control room. This role works with a cross-functional team of station stakeholders, project leads, and project managers to prepare and evaluate modifications to the plant design.Responsibilities include:Developing and contributing to safety system I&C architecture decision-making, conceptual designs, and scoping refinementReviewing and/or preparing engineering products (e.g., Design / Engineering Change packages, Specifications, Calculations, Technical Evaluations, Hazard Analyses)Overseeing contracted engineering work and ensuring consistency and compliance with company and industry standardsProviding technical support, input, and oversight for Factory and Site Acceptance Testing and Simulations (e.g., reviewing and approving procedures and observing activities)Interfacing with the primary equipment supplier and project stakeholders to support technical reviews and inputAnalyzing engineering risk and failure modes and incorporating mitigating strategies in the designsReporting and presenting status to engineering team lead, project managers, and management team on a periodic basisTop 3 Required SkillsExperience with nuclear power plant design, systems, and componentsStrong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills in I&CSpecification, technical, engineering writing abilitySoft skill requirementsStrong communication skills, both verbal and writtenAbility to lead, collaborate, and work both independently and effectively with multi-disciplinary teams distributed remotely and in multiple locationsStrongly Preferred Skills and Qualifications (with training documentation and record provided):50.59 (screen and evaluation) and nuclear licensing experience, including usage of vendor topical reportsStandard Design Process qualification for nuclear Engineering Changes desired, but not requiredEngineering specification qualification, including the ability to interpret and apply industry regulations and standardsCandidates will be expected to have or gain familiarity with Surry’s nuclear power plant design, including the Electrical Distribution System and or the Instrumentation and Control Systems at the station.Knowledge of and experience with nuclear protection systems, specifically PWR process protection, reactor trip systems (RTS), and engineered safety feature actuation systems (ESFAS)Knowledge of and experience with requirements engineering and managementExperience with digital industrial systems such as Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and/or Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems and associated computers, communications, and networksIn-depth knowledge of industry advances in control system monitoring, testing and analysis of control equipment, and controls theoryKnowledge of and experience with power plant controls, steam turbine control systems, combustion turbine control systems, balance of plant control systemsKnowledge of and experience with electrical and electronics theoryPreferred Years of Experience:6+ years of directly-related instrumentation & controls design engineering experience in a power generating station, nuclear background strongly preferred10+ years of industry experienceEducation:Possess a 4-year Electrical, Computer, or Systems Engineering Degree or equivalent extensive electrical/I&C/computer/systems engineering field experienceHolds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license can be used in lieu of a 4-year degreeIdeal experience?Nuclear utility experience requiredLocation = Remote with paid travel (less that 10%)Rate = $85-$96/hrLength = 1+ Year W2 contract - Possible extension for the right candidate
