Fabrication Machine OperatorThe Fabrication Machine Operator sets up, adjusts, and operates a variety of fabrication machinery to produce metal components to precise shapes and sizes according to blueprints, specifications, and work orders. This role ensures safe and efficient machine operation, maintains high quality standards, and supports continuous improvement initiatives in a fabrication and job shop environment.ResponsibilitiesSet up, adjust, and operate fabrication machinery to produce parts that meet specified dimensions, tolerances, and quality standards.Interpret and follow blueprints, work orders, and written instructions to determine material requirements, machine settings, and production sequences.Operate equipment such as auto saws, shears, ironworkers, press brakes, CNC plasma tables, laser jets, water jets, tube benders, CNC lasers, CNC waterjets, CNC press brakes, metal rollers, rotary punch presses, coil straighteners and feeders, sanders, drills, milling machines, grinders, metal shears, and saws.Use measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, rules, squares, angle gages, and height gages to verify part dimensions and ensure product quality.Perform basic fitting and assembly tasks using hand tools to complete or verify fabricated components as required.Access and use ERP systems to obtain and update information on material inventory, inventory locations, production orders, and inbound and outbound material deadlines.Monitor machine performance during operation, make necessary adjustments, and report or troubleshoot issues to maintain efficiency and minimize downtime.Follow and support 5S and continuous improvement initiatives to maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area.Read, interpret, and follow safety rules, manuals, and written procedures to ensure safe operation of equipment and tools.Work steadily to meet production deadlines while maintaining accuracy, quality, and attention to detail.Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding job status, issues, and improvement opportunities.Participate in and successfully complete in-house forklift and overhead crane certification and operate this equipment safely as required.SkillsMinimum of 12 years of experience in a fabrication and job shop environment (25 years preferred in some roles).Proven experience operating fabrication equipment such as auto saws, shears, ironworkers, press brakes, CNC plasma tables, laser jets, water jets, tube benders, CNC lasers, CNC waterjets, CNC press brakes, metal rollers, rotary punch presses, coil straighteners and feeders, sanders, drills, milling machines, grinders, metal shears, and saws.Ability to read and interpret blueprints and assembly drawings accurately.Proficiency using measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, rules, squares, angle gages, and height gages.Ability to read, interpret, and follow safety rules, manuals, and written instructions.Strong math skills, including measurements, conversions, and basic algebra and geometry.Familiarity with ERP systems and the ability to accurately access and update material and production data.Solid communication, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities.Ability to work steadily under deadlines while maintaining quality and attention to detail.Capability to pass in-house forklift and overhead crane certification.Understanding of and commitment to 5S principles and continuous improvement.QualificationsExperience in a stable fabrication or manufacturing environment with exposure to modern manufacturing processes.Demonstrated ability to support and sustain 5S program initiatives and goals.Comfort using a wide range of hand tools for fitting and assembly work.Experience working with metal chips, liquid coolants, and moving mechanical equipment in an industrial setting.Strong sense of dependability, craftsmanship, and ownership of work output.Why Work Here?You will join a long-standing, locally based facility with the backing and stability of a global industry leader, allowing you to build a secure, long-term career.
