QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalentNo physical limitations which would prevent the applicant from satisfactorily performing job duties, including lifting, climbing ladders, etc., within recognized standards and limits Demonstrated ability to perform job duties satisfactorily without direct supervisionSatisfactory history of safe, efficient and effective use of custodial products and equipmentMust be able to meet districts cleaning, maintenance and safety standardsAny equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achievedMinimum two years of experience as a custodian preferably in a school settingDemonstrates the ability to maintain effective and professional working relationships with students, staff, supervisors and members of the schoolSome heavy lifting and physical labor is required. Required to lift and/or move a minimum of 50 pounds regularly and is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to and over 90 pounds with helpDemonstrates the ability to communicate, understand and follow directions both written and orally in EnglishRequired to properly handle chemical cleaners and supplies following school training and manufacturer's directions.Familiar with Green cleaning practices and floor stripping with mechanical refinishing is a plus, D34 does not use stripper in normal floor refinishingMay be required to work during school holidays, weekends, days, evenings and overtime during inclement weather as directed by the head custodian, and Operations ManagerDemonstrates working in a team environment is requiredEssential Functions And ResponsibilitiesMeets regularly with the head custodian to coordinate janitorial and custodial services neededFollows and implements safe work practices and wears appropriate protective equipmentPerforms general cleaning and maintenance of the school building including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting and sanitizing according to established district criteriaAssists with the removal of snow from driveways, parking lots, bus areas, sidewalks and entrances to the schoolMaintains the safety and security of the building and grounds and performs the final security check of the facility at the completion of the shiftAssumes responsibility for the general fire safety of the schoolSanitizes washroom fixtures, including toilets, urinals, washbowls, fixtures, walls, partitions and floors according to established district criteriaRemoves refuse from the building and places in the appropriate outside garbage/recycling containerMoves and sets up chairs, tables choral risers etc. as required for school eventsInterfaces with all levels of staff within the building, with members of the school community and others who utilize the school facilityMaintains the grounds surrounding the school as requiredPerforms other related duties as may be necessary and assigned by the head custodian, building principal and Operations and Maintenance ManagerSubstitute hourly rate: $16.23Benefits are not included
