Metal Fabricator I

Our people make the remarkable possible through an unwavering display of uncommon commitment each day.Reporting to the Production Supervisor -Metal, the Metal Fabricator I is an entry-level role responsible for supporting the fabrication and assembly of custom metal projects. This role is focused on developing foundational fabrication skills, learning DI standards, and executing work safely and accurately under supervision.The Metal Fabricator I works in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and is expected to follow direction, ask questions, and build proficiency in core fabrication processes while contributing to overall production goals.This is a full-time, hourly position scheduled MondayFriday with availability for overtime when necessary.Essential Responsibilities/Functions may include but are not limited to:Maintains a safe work environment by following all shop safety procedures, wearing required PPE, and using tools and machines properlyFabricates and assembles basic metal components using processes such as cutting, welding, grinding, sanding, and finishing under supervisionCan sand metal and use Bondo when necessaryReads and follows basic production drawings with guidance to understand part requirements, dimensions, and assembly intentPerforms MIG welding tasks with guidance, developing consistency and technique to produce acceptable weldsAssists with TIG welding and other fabrication processes as skill level developsPrepares materials and parts for fabrication, including measuring, layout, and staging components prior to assemblyPerforms quality checks during the fabrication process and seeks input from team members to ensure work meets DI standardsUses tools, machines, and equipment safely and correctly, asking for assistance when neededFollows direction and completes assigned tasks on time to support production schedulesMaintains organization and cleanliness of work area, tools, and materials in accordance with shop standardsCommunicates clearly with supervisors and team members to ask questions, confirm understanding, and support workflowOpen to receiving coaching and applies feedback to improve performance and skill developmentAdheres to established work hours and takes responsibility for managing time effectivelySupports additional production duties as assigned based on skill levelKnowledge/Skills/Abilities:Demonstrates developing technical skills in MIG welding; TIG welding knowledge is preferred but not requiredHas basic understanding of metal fabrication processes and materialsHas basic ability to read and interpret blueprints and production drawings with guidanceDemonstrates willingness to learn, ask questions, and improve technical skillsPossesses basic knowledge of geometry, fractions, and decimals (standard and metric)Demonstrates a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and openness to feedbackCommunicates professionally and respectfully with team members in verbal and written formMaintains accountability for personal work while learning broader production processesShows attention to detail and a developing eye for qualityEducation/Certifications/Experience:Welding degree from a technical school is strongly preferred12 years of experience in metal fabrication or related field preferredPrior experience in a custom metal fabrication or sign fabrication environment is a plusPhysical Demands:The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, climb, crouch, or crawlThe employee must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 poundsThe employee must be able to stand for extended periods of timeSpecific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focusEmployee must be able to talk and hearWork Environment:Due to our onsite Fabrication process, the work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions.
