The curriculum for courses in this department is based on the basic aspects of the Federal Government and is one of the required courses to demonstrate competency in civic literacy. More information about benefits can be found atDuties and ResponsibilitiesINSTRUCTIONFull-time faculty responsibilities include teaching, maintaining office hours, and meeting instructional expectations as detailed in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Duties include:• Teach assigned Political Science courses using effective, diverse instructional strategies.• Engage students through learning activities that support academic success and mindset development.• Provide accommodations for students with disabilities in a timely and appropriate manner.• Maintain regular attendance for classes and office hours.• Utilize the Learning Management System to support instruction and communication.• Evaluate student performance, grade assignments, and provide prompt feedback.• Record and report grades and attendance accurately and promptly.• Participate in assessment of student learning outcomes.COLLEGE SERVICEFaculty are expected to participate in college service activities as detailed in the Collective Bargaining Agreement, including:• Preparing instructional materials, syllabi, and class schedules.• Participating in department, division, and College planning, assessment, and accreditation work.• Attending department, division, and College meetings.• Participating in commencement ceremonies and other College events.• Supporting student activities and clubs.• Mentoring and evaluating faculty as assigned.• Contributing to curriculum development, program review, and instructional improvement.PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT• Participate in professional development activities in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.• Stay current in the field of Political Science and effective instructional practices.• Engage in ongoing improvement of teaching and student learning.ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES• Teaching assignments may include daytime, evening, or online classes.• Collaborate with the dean, associate dean, curriculum coordinator, and faculty on program planning and improvement.• Support ongoing review, accreditation, and general effectiveness of the program.QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:• Master's degree in Political Science or GovernmentOR• Master's degree with 18 graduate semester hours in Political Science or GovernmentPreferred Qualifications:• Coursework in political science or government• Experience teaching college-level political science coursesWe offer a complete benefits package to full-time employees including health care, dental, vision, retirement, deferred compensation plans, flexible spending accounts, life insurance, long-term disability, holidays, vacation, and sick leave.
