Greenhouse Team Lead

We are seeking a versatile and dynamic Greenhouse Team Lead to support year-round operations in our retail garden center. This role requires strong horticultural knowledge, retail leadership, and the ability to manage seasonal priorities while serving as a trusted opening and closing leader. The ideal candidate is passionate about plants, experienced in customer service and team leadership, and confident handling customer concerns to ensure an excellent shopping experience.Qualifications3+ years of experience in a greenhouse, garden center, nursery, or similar retail environment preferredProven customer service experience, including handling customer questions and concernsStrong understanding of:Plant identification and care (annuals, perennials, houseplants, shrubs)Gardening practices, soil, fertilizers, irrigation, and seasonal growing cyclesIntegrated Pest Management (IPM)Previous leadership, supervisory, or keyholder experience preferredAbility to open and close the store and maintain store security proceduresBasic knowledge of home décor trends and garden merchandisingComfortable using POS systems and basic computer applicationsWilling and able to work outdoors and in greenhouse conditions year-roundAbility to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidaysWeekends are mandatory General ResponsibilitiesAssist the Garden Center Manager with daily operations and seasonal planningServe as a keyholder, responsible for opening and closing the store, securing the building, and following cash-handling proceduresAct as the manager-on-duty in the absence of the Garden Center ManagerHelp supervise, train, and support plant care and greenhouse staffAssign tasks and provide guidance on plant care, merchandising, and daily prioritiesDeliver exceptional customer service and resolve customer conflicts in a professional, calm, and solution-oriented mannerDevelop and carry out a greenhouse pest management schedule, including scouting, treatment, and follow-up, with some applications performed after hours to protect plant health and maintain a safe retail environmentAddress customer complaints related to plant health, returns, or service issues while upholding company policiesEducate customers on proper plant care, including watering, sunlight, soil, fertilization, and pest managementReceive, unload, and stock plant and product shipmentsMaintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing greenhouse and retail spaceWater, fertilize, prune, and groom plants to ensure optimal health and appearanceMonitor for pests, diseases, and plant stress; take corrective action as neededRestock shelves and displays with plants, soil, pots, and gardening suppliesAssist at the point-of-sale system, including cash handling, returns, and exchangesParticipate in inventory counts, ordering, and shrink controlSupport visual merchandising and seasonal displays Key SkillsStrong leadership, accountability, and team-building skillsExcellent customer service and conflict resolution abilitiesClear communication and decision-making skillsAbility to remain calm and professional in high-pressure or challenging situationsFlexibility and adaptability to changing seasonal demandsAttention to detail and strong organizational skillsAbility to plan ahead and manage multiple priorities RequirementsProlonged periods of walking, standing, and working on feetAbility to lift up to 30 pounds regularlyAbility to push, pull, bend, lift, stretch, and climb to care for plants and arrange inventoryWork occurs in a greenhouse and/or outdoor environment with exposure to varying temperatures, humidity, and weather conditions
