Technical GMS Applications Developer - Grid

Job Summary:The Technical GMS Applications Developer - Grid is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and supporting a suite of Electric Power Grid applications used in Energy Management Systems (EMS). These applications support real-time grid operations including power flow, state estimation, contingency analysis, forecasting, SCADA, and dispatcher training systems. This role follows SDLC best practices to deliver high-quality, reliable software solutions and works closely with internal stakeholders, grid operators, and external vendors. The position reports to the Supervisor/Manager of Grid & Market Solutions (GMS) Technology Development - Grid team.Key Responsibilities:Design, develop, test, and maintain EMS grid applications across Windows and Linux environmentsWork on EMS applications including Power Flow, State Estimator, Contingency Analysis, Load Frequency Control, Load Forecasting, DTS, ICCP, SCADA, PMU, NMMS, CIM Importer, and Dynamic Stability AnalysisDevelop backend database changes using Oracle PL/SQLPerform EMS user interface development using GE EMS FGbuilder and Siemens WebSDKMigrate and port custom EMS code during EMS system upgradesParticipate in requirements analysis and design reviews with internal stakeholders and grid system vendorsAdhere to SDLC, change management, and software release best practicesAnalyze grid operation and congestion management requirements and design software solutionsWork closely with Network Modeling teams on CIM data modeling and CIM Importer schema developmentTroubleshoot and resolve voltage and transient stability (VSAT/TSAT) application issuesDesign and implement IRR (Wind/Solar) forecasting interfaces and presentationsDeploy, configure, integrate, and test vendor software releases in development environmentsProvide Level 2 production support for critical grid applications on a 24x7 basisCollaborate with Grid Operations, Training, Production Support, and Modeling teamsAutomate build, test, and deployment processes using CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Maven, and BitbucketDevelop integrations between EMS applications and downstream systems (MMS, VSAT/TSAT, settlements, reports)Create technical documentation and deliver training presentationsMaintain and support grid systems in development environmentsSenior-Level Responsibilities (In addition to Level 3):Work directly with vendors to propose and implement grid application and interface improvementsPerform code reviews and approve code changes developed by other engineersAutomate unit and regression testing using scripting and tools such as SeleniumLead all phases of the product software development lifecycle including analysis, design, testing, and integrationDeliver product solution presentations and technical training sessionsRequired Skills:Electric power systems operations and EMS applicationsSoftware development lifecycle (SDLC)Grid applications: Power Flow, State Estimator, Contingency Analysis, SCOPF, SCUCOracle PL/SQL and database designLinux and Windows environmentsCI/CD automation toolsTroubleshooting and root cause analysisStrong communication and collaboration skillsProgramming Languages & Technologies:C, C++, Visual C++, FORTRANJava, Perl, PythonPL/SQL, Shell ScriptingJ2EE, Servlets, SOAP, JavaScript, HTML/CSS, XMLMessage Queues: Tibco JMS, AMQApplication Servers: JBoss, TomcatDatabases: Oracle, SQL ServerSource Control: Git, GitHubOptimization Solvers: CPLEX/AMPL, GurobiOperating Systems: Windows, Linux, AIXPreferred Skills:Experience with EMS or Market Management Systems from vendors such as GE, Siemens, Hitachi Energy/ABB, OSI, Nexant, ItronPower industry experience with ISOs, utilities, or grid software vendorsExperience with CIM/XML model-based toolsExperience building system integrations using messaging servicesExperience with optimization and commercial solversEducation:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent experienceExperience:Level 3: Mid to Senior-level experience in EMS or power systems software development
