Position Title: Communications Technician (Installation and Repair/Special Service combination)

Job SummaryThe primary job responsibilities of the Communications Technician are to engage and develop customerrelationships and provide solutions to our customers through our products and services. All ouremployees are ambassadors of Ziply Fiber within our communities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:The Essential Duties and Responsibilities listed below are a range of duties performed by the employeeand not intended to reflect all duties performed.
Install and service both voice and data services – DSL, TDM and VoIP, FTTH
Identify and repair outside plant issues.
Engage contract outside plant specialists, as necessary.
Install and maintain inside wire for residential/business broadband (HSI/Video) service.
Install an array of wireless home (Wi-Fi) networking equipment for both residential and business
customers.
Use and understand automated dispatch system (i.e., handheld smart phones), read, and
understand broadband service orders and trouble tickets, and the use of appropriate broadband
test equipment.
Participate in the company lead generation program through the promotion and sale of additional
Ziply Fiber products and services during customer interaction process.
Communicate effectively and accurately on customer issues to eliminate repeat trouble calls.
Mentor co-workers to expand knowledge, be self-motivated and display the ability to follow
through on assignments in a timely manner.
Effectively use preventive maintenance program by rebuilding aerial/buried/underground cables.
Read and interpret Outside Plant drawings.
Navigate web, set up business/residential computer(s) and demonstrate web-based services.
Effectively use Ziply Fiber’s internal programs and dispatch programs to complete assignments.
Support, install, and repair company products and services.
Responsible for promoting and selling the company’s products and services and participating in the
company’s sales referral programs during their working hours.
Understand and demonstrate basic telephone/broadband technology. Utilize test equipment to
install products and isolate trouble effectively.
Must be computer literate and understand various operating systems, including PCs and tablets.
Understand Internet connectivity as it pertains to the Internet of Things (IoT)
Demonstrate a working knowledge of TCP/IP
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent is required, technical or college degree a plus.
Two (2) to Five (5) years of experience in telecommunications installation and maintenance is
required with an additional 5 years in Special Services and/or construction.
Must possess and maintain a valid State Driver's License and satisfactory driving record.
Must complete Pole Climbing Certification (Individual cannot exceed 275 lbs.).
Must complete company provided training and provide ability to complete full installs for high speed
Internet and voice services.
Additional equipment certification/licensing/experience is a plus but not required (i.e., DMS10,
Adtran, AFC/Tellabs, Calix, Go Digital, Acetelis, Pair Gain, Multiplexers, Seiscor/Pulsecom
S24DU/COT, Fiber, Optics, etc.).
Understanding of telephony and data networking required.
Understand different PC operating systems and be able to learn applications quickly.
Must have knowledge of the following Internet Protocol attributes:
FundamentalsBehaviorsCurrent technologiesNetwork troubleshooting diagnosis.
• Telecommunications wiring color-code competency is highly desired.
• Must have a working knowledge of Wi-Fi (802.11) to setup and provision services.
• Must have a working knowledge of Ethernet (802.3)

Ability to travel and stay overnight when servicing remote locations.

Ability to operate equipment to perform the essentials functions of the job (i.e., handheld devices,
splicing tools, test equipment, computer/laptop, phone, and company vehicle.)
Ability to drive on behalf of the company in a safe and responsible manner.
Ideal candidate will have splicing skills in both copper and fiber environments.

Communications Technician work involves driving a motor vehicle and must be able to perform all functionsof operating a motor vehicle regularly and safely. Essential and marginal functions may require maintainingphysical condition necessary to frequently stand, walk, climb, or sit for prolonged periods of time andregularly position oneself (e.g., bend, twist, reach, grasp, push, pull) and frequently handle, lift, and carryobjects over 50 lbs. Ability to climb and work from ladders.
Work EnvironmentThe Communications Technician will frequently work in extreme temperatures and heights over 15 feet.They will occasionally work in confined spaces (i.e., attics, crawl spaces, manholes, trenches), andmoderate to high noise levels. Except where appropriate and conducive to accomplishing the goals andobjectives of a particular task (such as in an emergency) the Communication Technician will work in a well litarea that is ventilated and is as physically and psychologically innocuous as possible under theconditions which exist at a particular time.
