Multimedia Journalist

A multimedia journalist is asked to be a jack of all trades – be plugged in to the community; gather & make sense of facts; shoot video; post on digital/social, be live. We’re looking for a reporter who loves telling compelling, impactful stories for our viewers, and who are good teammatesEssential Duties & Responsibilities:Report news stories for broadcast, describing the background and details of eventsArrange interviews with people who can provide information about storiesReview copy and correct errors in content, grammar and punctuation, following prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelinesReview and evaluate notes taken about event aspects to isolate pertinent facts and detailsDetermines a story’s emphasis, length and format, and organizes material accordinglyResearch and analyze background information related to news stories to be able to provide complete and accurate informationGather information about events through research, interviews, experience or attendance at political, news, sports, artistic, social or other functionsPitch stories to news managers and news producers which are relevant to the local communityReceive assignments and evaluates leads and tips to develop story ideasDiscuss issues with producers and/or news managers to establish priorities or positionsChecks reference materials such as books, news files or public records to obtain relevant factsRevise work to meet editorial approval or to fit time requirementsShoot and edit news events and news reportsProduce and present reports for all platformsEnsure that all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production qualityWrite stories for digital platformsInteract with viewers/users on social media sitesPerform other duties as assigned.Requirements & Skills:Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experienceFluency in EnglishExcellent communication skills, both oral and written.Two years’ experience in news reporting (depending on market size) preferredSuperior on-air presenceProficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipmentAbility to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneouslyValid driver’s license with a good driving recordFlexibility to work any shift
