Experienced CNC Programmer/Setup

CNC PROGRAMMER/SETUP Reports to: Machining Manager PRIMARY FUNCTION To program, set up, and operate Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) machining centers to machine metallic and nonmetallic parts. This job description applies to Vertical, Horizontal, and 5-Axis CNC Machines. We are especially seeking a Machinist with significant programming experience. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Generates CNC programs by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs. Set-up of CNC machines by installing and adjusting, tools, attachments, collets, vices, stops, and stock pushers; tramming heads. Verifies settings and produces quality parts by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhering to international standards and Ahaus standards. Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T). Maintains specifications by performing drilling, milling, grooving, cutting and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes. Plans stock inventory by checking stock to determine amount available; anticipating needed stock. Knowledge and use of lifting devices, overhead cranes, and fork-lift trucks. Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs. Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs. Documents actions by completing production and quality logs. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications. Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments. Conceptual Skills, Process Improvement, Verbal Communication, Functional and Technical Skills, Controls and Instrumentation, Tooling, Coordination, Attention to Detail, Judgment TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Seeking a highly trained and skilled individual Vocational education and/or Associate's Degree preferred 5-10 years of experience in a non-production environment preferred The following areas of expertise are required to be an effective Programmer/Machinist: Machine tool operation CNC programming Math skills, including knowledge of dimensional tolerances and GD&T Precision measurement instruments Reading and interpreting blueprints General Computer skills Verbal and written communication skills WORKING CONDITIONS Programmers & Machinists may be subject to the following: High noise levels from machinery Fumes, dust, vapors, mist Coolants, oils, cutting fluids, and other chemicals
