Research Associate, Needham Funds
Needham & Company, a full-service investment bank and asset management firm, is seeking a research associate for the Needham Funds to work with its New York-based investment team to provide aide in research of current and potential portfolio holdings. This role requires a passion for growth equities and the ability to conduct bottom-up fundamental research into public growth companies, particularly within the technology and other growth-oriented sectors.ResponsibilitiesWorking in partnership with the Portfolio Managers and analysts, the objective of the Associate is:Fundamental Analysis: Conduct rigorous "bottom-up" research on existing holdings and new investment ideas within the small and mid-cap universe.Research Reporting: Draft investment memos and detailed research reports for the Investment Committee, producing data into actionable recommendations.Company Due Diligence: Meet with management teams, attend industry conferences, and conduct primary research through channel checks and expert calls.Portfolio Monitoring: Track quarterly earnings, regulatory filings, and industry news to assess the ongoing impact on portfolio positioning.Client Relationship Management: Assist in the preparation of investor communications, including quarterly commentaries and performance updates, and provide high-level support for client inquiries regarding specific portfolio holdings and sector trends.Key Qualifications / RequirementsProfessional Experience: 1–3 years of experience in sell-side Equity Research or buy-side investment analysis, or a similarly related finance position.Industry Expertise: Knowledge in Semiconductors, Power, HPC & AI, Industrials or other engineering-intensive sectors is highly preferred.Academic Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Engineering, preferredLicensing & Certification: Securities Industry Essentials (SIE), Series 7, and Series 63 licenses are a significant plus.CFA Track: Progress toward or completion of the CFA charter is a plus.Core Competencies:Financial Acumen: High fluency in accounting principles and detailed financial statement analysis.Autonomy: Proven self-starter with the ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment.Communication: Exceptional verbal and written skills, capable of drafting high-quality investment reports and memos.Precision: Highly detail-oriented with a commitment to maintaining data integrity and accuracy.Market Passion: A genuine and passionate interest in equity markets and the evolving technology landscape.The good-faith expected salary range for the above position is $100,000-$135,000 depending on factors including but not limited to the candidate’s experience, skills, license registration status; market conditions; and business needs. This salary range does not include other elements of total compensation, including a discretionary bonus and benefits such as a 401(k) program with company-matching contributions; health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, flexible spending, commuter; and paid time-off plan.
