Substance Abuse Counselor
Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Substance Abuse Counselor to join our dynamic behavioral health team. In this vital role, you will provide comprehensive addiction counseling and mental health support to individuals struggling with substance use disorders. Your expertise will guide clients through recovery, utilizing evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and behavioral health interventions. Duties
Conduct thorough intake assessments and diagnostic evaluations to determine client needs and treatment goals
Develop and implement individualized care plans incorporating addiction medicine, behavioral therapy, and mental health counseling strategies
Facilitate individual and group therapy sessions using techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and applied behavior analysis
Provide crisis intervention and crisis management to support clients experiencing acute mental health or substance use crises
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate case management, home & community care, and hospital-based services
Maintain accurate medical documentation, patient records, and notes in compliance with HIPAA regulations and ICD coding standards (ICD-9, ICD-10)
Engage in ongoing research and data collection to monitor treatment effectiveness and improve clinical outcomes
Experience
Proven experience in addiction counseling, clinical counseling, or behavioral health settings
Strong background in psychotherapy, social work, or mental health counseling with familiarity in crisis intervention and crisis management techniques
Experience working with diverse populations including children & family counseling, PTSD care, and patients in hospital or community settings
Knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, CPT coding, ICD coding systems, and diagnostic evaluation procedures
Skilled in patient assessment, intake processes, behavior management strategies, and case management practices
Familiarity with applied behavior analysis (ABA), behavioral therapy techniques, and addiction medicine principles is highly desirable
Prior experience working within HIPAA guidelines ensuring confidentiality and security of medical documentation
