Overview: POSITION SUMMARY We are seeking an experienced Database DevOps Engineer for a 6-month contract position based in Knoxville, TN. This role focuses on integrating database operations with modern DevOps practices, automation, and cloud platforms. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in database management across multiple platforms, CI/CD pipeline integration, and service catalog automation to support enterprise-scale database operations. RESPONSIBILITIES DATABASE INTEGRATION & AUTOMATIONIntegrate database creation, operations, and management into application patterns and automation frameworksWork with both relational and non-relational databases as part of standard application vending processesAutomate database provisioning and configuration workflowsImplement database-as-code practices for consistent and repeatable deployments AWS CLOUD DATABASE MANAGEMENTManage and optimize AWS database solutions including Amazon RDS (PostgreSQL)Work with NoSQL solutions and data warehousing platforms like RedShiftImplement best practices for cloud database security, performance, and cost optimizationDesign and maintain database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategiesMonitor database performance and implement scaling solutions CI/CD PIPELINE INTEGRATIONIncorporate database management tools into CI/CD pipelines using GitHub ActionsImplement automated database schema migrations and version controlIntegrate DBMaestro or similar database management tools for enterprise database operationsDevelop and maintain database deployment pipelinesEnsure database changes follow proper testing and approval workflows SERVICE CATALOG & STANDARDIZATIONEnable standard configurability through selected service catalog tools (ServiceNow, Backstage)Automate configuration of database tools and management as part of service catalog item creationDevelop self-service database provisioning capabilities for development teamsCreate standardized database templates and configurationsOnboard teams to standardized database management processes KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER & COLLABORATIONTransfer knowledge of standard database management operations and tooling to platform engineering teamsCollaborate with development teams to optimize database usage patternsProvide training and documentation on database best practicesSupport troubleshooting and performance optimization initiativesMentor team members on database automation and DevOps practices QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED EXPERIENCE5+ years of database administration and management experience3+ years of experience with AWS cloud database servicesStrong background in DevOps practices and CI/CD pipeline developmentExperience with database automation and infrastructure-as-code TECHNICAL SKILLS Database Technologies:Amazon RDS (PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server)NoSQL databases (DynamoDB, MongoDB, etc.)Data warehousing solutions (RedShift, Snowflake)Database performance tuning and optimizationDatabase backup, recovery, and high availability DevOps & Automation:GitHub Actions or similar CI/CD platformsInfrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, CloudFormation)Configuration management tools (Ansible, Chef, Puppet)Containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)Scripting languages (Python, Bash, PowerShell) Database Management Tools:DBMaestro (preferred) or similar database lifecycle management toolsDatabase migration and schema management toolsDatabase monitoring and alerting solutionsVersion control for database schemas and scripts Service Catalog & Platform Tools:ServiceNow platform administrationBackstage developer portal (preferred)API development and integrationITIL framework knowledge PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSAWS certifications (Solutions Architect, Database Specialty)Experience with GitOps workflowsKnowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologiesBackground in platform engineering or site reliability engineeringExperience with observability and monitoring tools (DataDog, New Relic)
