Maintenance Supervisor - Truck Shop

The Truck Shop Maintenance Supervisor's primary purpose is to optimize the ongoing maintenance repair activities to make the best use of available resources and best serve the needs of the department's customers. The variables that the Supervisor considers performing the optimization of the department are Safety aspects, environmental impact, production impact, job priority, manpower availability, material availability, financial impact, job duration, customer desires, and planned maintenance program compliance. The Supervisor is responsible for and maintaining an organization capable of completing not only the necessary repairs to maintain equipment availability but identifying failure modes and correcting root causes.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Provides direct supervision to all hourly subordinates in the maintenance shop daily.Coaches' employees regarding job performance issues and provide feedback as needed.Encourages conformance with environmental standards and practices during all phases of the maintenance effort daily.Participates and monitors predictive/preventative maintenance activities to gather condition information weekly.Identifies and communicates deficiencies with maintenance practices, equipment performance, workplace safety, workforce efficiency and equipment reliability.Attend daily scheduling meetings.Communicate with internal and external employees to schedule cooperative work efforts.Communicates and interprets company policies to employees as needed.Identifies and seeks assistance to solve work problems.Ensure root cause failure analysis is being followed and the results are shared with all parties.Reviews weekly and monthly maintenance schedules.Ensure all department maintenance procedures and practices are followed.Assists employees with technical and practical identification/diagnosis of equipment and machinery defects or malfunctions.Monitors work progress and relevant equipment status to decide necessity of work re-assignments to assure optimal operational productivity as needed.Oversee the collection and recording of equipment and work activity data.Manages the Labor Agreement, monitors compliance of the Absentee Control, and Drug and Alcohol programs, Safety Policies, hears and answers first step grievances, holds disciplinary hearings and makes discipline decisions. Resolves operational and employee problems while coordinating with Human Resource.Review of Dispatch Operation performance graphs relevant to maintenance.Participate in department's manpower, scheduling, and bidding process.Manage purchasing operating consumables, parts.Advise the General Supervisor of any problems or issues and presents solutions after deliberation.Foster a cohesive working relationship (a partnership) with the local unions and participate in committees as needed.Must have written, verbal, and listening communication skills.Must be willing to provide guidance and mentoring whenever possible. At the same time, we must be able to enforce guidelines for work conduct and correct as necessary.ADDITIONAL DUTIES:Attend professional workshops with mining industry peers to determine best practices to enhance maintenance work processes at the mine.Other duties as assigned.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Excellent knowledge of diesel enginesKnowledge of maintaining large mobile mining equipment, including haul trucks. Wheeled loaders, rubber tired and tracked dozers, graders, and all types of mine support equipment.Troubleshooting abilities in hydraulics, pneumatics, low voltage electrical, and automated lubrications systems.Must have good people skills and ability to effectively communicate with superiors and subordinates verbally and in writing.Knowledge of basic computer functions in Excel, Word, MIMS, PowerPoint, MS Access and MS Outlook.Deductive reasoning skillsKnowledge of Root Cause Failure AnalysisAbility to navigate through complicated and detailed schematics.Sound understanding of MSHA, safety, and environmental regulations as they relate to the area of work.Needs skills in project management, predictive maintenance, equipment repair, and maintenance planning.Must have strong mechanical skills and understanding of welding, fabrication, machining, and rebuilding.REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEHigh School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)Minimum 5 years' experience.
