Lead Night Custodian

NORWALK COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICTJob Title: Lead Night CustodianReports to: Buildings & Grounds DirectorPosition Purpose: Serve as the initial point of contact for night custodians should emergencies or issues arise during night work hours. Provide oversight of night custodial operations at all locations, while maintaining a sanitary and safe facility for students, employees and the public; minimizing property damage, loss and liability exposure; ensuring that assignments are completed in a safe, proper and timely manner and overseeing and supporting assigned custodians in the performance of their assignments.Hours for this position are anticipated to be 2:15 PM to 10:45 PM Monday through Friday during the school year and 7:00 AM to 2:30 PM during the summer period. Some scheduling adjustments may be made at the discretion of the Buildings and Grounds Director.Essential Performance ResponsibilitiesPerforms routine cleaning responsibilities at assigned location. Will fill in at various locations when there are absences. Delivers various items and materials (e.g. supplies, mail, packages, furniture) as needed for the purpose of ensuring adequate supplies to the appropriate parties.Informs students, other site personnel and supervisor for the purpose of providing information regarding activities, safety and/or proper maintenance of facilities.Inspects school facilities for the purpose of ensuring that the site is suitable for safe operations, maintained in clean condition, and identifying necessary repairs.Assists Buildings & Grounds Director in providing feedback for custodial employee performance reviews.Assist with preventive maintenance and minor repair of all custodial equipment, building equipment as directed.Oversees minor maintenance work performed by custodial staff.Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (e.g. facility damage, alarms) for the purpose of taking appropriate action to resolve immediate safety issues and maintaining a functioning educational environment.Checks buildings and grounds to ensure that they are properly cleaned and maintained - this includes snow removalArranges furniture and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings, classroom activities and events.Serves as first point of contact for night custodial employees on how to respond to system failures, location shut off procedures for water, fire sprinklers, gas and electric. Follows chain of command regarding notification of these failures and ensures necessary documentation is completed. Assist with preventive maintenance and minor repair of all custodial equipment, building equipment as directed.Other duties as assigned by Buildings & Grounds DirectorNote: The above description is illustrative of tasks and responsibilities. It is not meant to be all inclusive of every task or responsibility.Knowledge, Skills, And AbilitiesAbility to operate life safety equipment (fire panels) in the buildingAbility to use chemicals, equipment, tools and work processes in cleaning and preventative maintenance of public facilities and groundsAbility to read and comprehend labels, signs and written instructionsAbility to communicate clearly both verbally and in writingAbility to prioritize workAbility to work independently and collaboratively as part of a building team and district teamAbility to establish positive and respectful relations with all staff, students and the public to provide excellent customer serviceAbility to maintain confidentialityAbility to safely operate mechanical equipment including but not limited to waxing machines, auto scrubber, carpet cleaner, vacuum, custodial cart, leaf blower, snow blower, and weed trimmerAbility to use technology and communication equipment including but not limited to the telephone, radios, work orders, and emailA past history of punctuality, good attendance, and positive interactions with students, staff, and publicQualifications Profile3-5 years custodial experience preferredExperience Managing People And/or Projects PreferredExperience working in a school setting a plusDriver's License required with reliable transportation.Physical RequirementsPhysical requirements vary by individual job assignment but requires a minimum of the following physical requirements: Lifting lunchroom tables, walking (15-25,000 steps / day), standing, bending, carrying, climbing ladders and stairs, lifting minimum of 50 pounds, driving, pushing, pulling, reaching, sitting, and stooping.Working ConditionsVaried.Terms of Employment12-month work year. Wage and work year to be established by the Board. Employment subject to provisions of board policy, state and federal law.EvaluationPerformance will be evaluated annually by the Buildings & Grounds Director, or in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of staff.FLSA StatusNon-Exempt.
