Apply via Dice today!Oxford Solutions is working with a client in the East Hills area of Pittsburgh, PA to hire a Junior Java Software Engineer for a direct placement opportunity.This is a great role for an entry-level to early-career software developer who wants to build hands-on experience in backend development, legacy system support, code maintenance, and enterprise application environments.This role will begin with full onsite training. After the initial training period, the schedule will move to one remote workday per week.ResponsibilitiesMaintain, update, and clean up existing legacy software systemsSupport backend application development using Java and SQLAssist with day-to-day system maintenance, troubleshooting, and code improvementsWork in a Linux-based environment, including basic shell scriptingSupport integrations involving REST and SOAP APIs, FTP, and data-related processesUse source control tools such as Git or SVNLearn new frameworks, tools, and internal systems as business needs evolveCollaborate with team members to resolve technical issues and support ongoing development prioritiesContribute to modernization efforts while continuing to support existing applicationsQualificationsBachelor s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field0 to 3 years of software development experienceProficiency with Java 8 or newer; Java 11 or newer is a plusStrong SQL skillsExperience working in Linux environmentsBasic shell scripting experienceFamiliarity with REST APIs, SOAP APIs, FTP, or data scraping techniquesExperience with Git, SVN, or similar source control toolsComfortable working with legacy code and backend-focused systemsStrong problem-solving skills and ability to learn quicklyCollaborative attitude and willingness to adapt to shifting prioritiesIdeal CandidateThis role is a strong fit for a junior developer who is comfortable starting with maintenance, cleanup, and legacy system support while building toward broader software development responsibilities.
