Job SummaryUnder general supervision, performs a wide variety of professional level of nursing duties for patients served in the clinical areas.Supervises the Following PositionsPositions: None, except when serving as coordinator or charge nursePhysical RequirementsThe ability to perform the duties and responsibility of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations for disabilities.The ability to consistently lift, push or pull loads of up to fifty (50) pounds. Speed and consistency of output and time utilization of job duties.Computer Knowledge & Electronic Equipment Use: Demonstrates ability to consistently utilize electronic equipment and online computer programs to perform job duties, including electronic documentation, and order entry.Resource Utilization: Consistently utilizes and maintains supplies and equipment to minimize lost charges and unnecessary equipment repair-replacement.Confidentiality: Adheres to established policies on privacy and security requirements for compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), as applicable by Shannon Policy.Performance: Position Specific Essential FunctionsAdministers and documents medication administration in accordance with hospital policies; Demonstrates knowledge of medications administered to include normal dosages, side effects and expected out comes.Ability to identify emergency situations; uses sound judgement in responding to emergencies in a calm and efficient manner; verifies sponge, needles and instruments before closure of incision.Adheres to Standards and recommended practices for specific nursing service area(s). Provides a safe supportive environment for surgical/procedural patients and expected practice behaviors based on the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation of nursing interventions and evaluation.Attends meetings and in-services as assigned; follows work schedules and demonstrates good attendance; works independently, uses time effectively and completes work by assigned deadlines; performs other duties as needed to ensure optimal customer satisfaction.Makes frequent rounds on the unit; coordinates daily activities and work assignments to best meet the patient's needsPerforms other duties as assigned.QualificationsEducationRequiredHigh School Diploma, GED, or equivalentCompletion of an accredited nursing programPreferredAssociate's degree in NursingExperience:PreferredTwo or more years of experience in NursingCertification/Licensure:RequiredGraduate Vocational Nurse (GVN) Permit, with authorization to practice in the State of TexasGraduates who do not present a permit to practice within sixty (60) days of graduation will be transferred to an applicable position, if available, with corresponding pay.Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), with authorization to practice in the State of TexasMust obtain license within six (6) months from temporary permit issuance date.Basic Life Support (BLS) CertificationMust obtain within ninety (90) days of start datePreferredCertification in a Nursing Specialty Area, by an organization recognized by the Texas Board of NursingAdvanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) CertificationPediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification
