Journeyman Electrician
Job DescriptionThe Journeyman Electrician – Transportation Systems is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems and infrastructure in roadway and transportation environments. This role supports traffic operations, safety, and mobility through the installation and maintenance of field devices, signal systems, communication networks, and power distribution equipment in compliance with applicable codes, DOT standards, and project specifications.ResponsibilitiesInstall, maintain, and repair electrical power and low-voltage systems in roadway and transportation environmentsInstall, terminate, and test field equipment, including traffic signal cabinets and controllers (NEMA, ATC), CCTV cameras, detection systems, dynamic message signs (DMS/VMS), and roadside cabinetsPerform conduit installation (PVC, rigid steel, and flexible), trenching coordination, wire pulls, cable routing, splicing, grounding, and bondingInstall and connect power distribution systems, including panels, breakers, disconnects, transformers, and UPS systemsInstall, terminate, and test fiber optic, copper, and wireless communication systemsRead and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and standard drawings to ensure accurate installationPerform troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair of electrical systems, communication networks, and field equipmentConduct system testing, commissioning, and field acceptance testing in accordance with project and agency requirementsEnsure all work is performed in compliance with NEC, NESC, MUTCD, FHWA, state DOT standards, and local codesPerform preventative maintenance, inspections, and routine service on installed systems and equipmentDocument work performed, including service reports, testing results, as-builts, and maintenance recordsMaintain safe work zones and traffic control setups in accordance with applicable safety standardsOperate and maintain tools, equipment, and testing devices safely and effectivelyCoordinate daily work activities with supervisors, engineers, inspectors, and other tradesRespond to service calls, outages, and emergency repair situations as neededSupport system cutovers, turn-ups, and project closeout activitiesMentor apprentices and support on-the-job training and skill developmentKey Measures / Key Performance IndicatorsWork completed correctly with minimal rework or deficienciesTasks completed on time and in line with project schedulesAdherence to safety policies with no preventable incidentsWork meets applicable codes, standards, and passes inspectionsAbility to identify and resolve issues efficientlyAccurate and timely completion of work orders and reportsRequirementsEducation: High school diploma or GED required and valid Journeyman Electrician licenseExperience3–5+ years of experience as a Journeyman ElectricianExperience in roadway, transportation, or outdoor infrastructure environments preferredExperience with electrical power distribution and low-voltage systemsExposureExposure to outdoor job sites, roadway and traffic environmentsExposure to electrical hazards, noise, dust, and construction conditionsWork may involve night shifts, weekends, or on-call responseInteraction with field teams, supervisors, inspectors, and other tradesFactors critical to success at ITG Communications for this position:Consistently performs work safely and in compliance with all applicable standardsDemonstrates strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in the fieldCompletes work accurately with minimal rework or supervisionManages time effectively to meet project deadlines and production goalsCommunicates clearly and works well with supervisors, team members, and other tradesMaintains attention to detail and a high standard of workmanshipPhysical RequirementsAbility to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally more with assistanceAbility to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and crawl for extended periods throughout the workdayAbility to climb ladders, poles, and structures and maintain balance while working at elevated heightsAbility to work in confined spaces such as cabinets, vaults, and underground enclosuresAbility to use hands and arms for repetitive tasks, including handling tools, wiring, and equipment installationAbility to reach above shoulder level and work overhead for extended periodsAbility to operate hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment safely and effectivelyAbility to see and distinguish colors for wiring and system identificationAbility to hear and communicate effectively in noisy work environmentsAbility to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and windAbility to safely navigate active construction zones and roadway environments with moving trafficAbility to wear and properly use personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, harnesses, and high-visibility gearAdditional CommentsITG is an equal employment opportunity employer.
