For this role specifically, we are seeking an individual to help support high-impact, civic tech within the federal government.As an integral part of the program, the Data Engineer leads the team in evaluating new or emerging technologies using prototypes and/or proof of concepts, analyzes and communicates the benefits and risks in implementing solutions using the new technologies, lead teams to support the adoption of new technologies across the enterprise, and provides technical leadership by supervising and mentoring junior members of the team.Client Requirements: applicants MUST BE US Citizens and be able to obtain Public Trust clearanceResponsibilitiesDesign, build, and maintain scalable, efficient data pipelines and systems following modern data engineering best practicesEvaluate and prototype new tools and technologies, assessing their risks and benefitsBuild and maintain scalable data pipelines and models using Databricks, dbt, and SQL (PostgreSQL)Develop robust data solutions leveraging AWS services (Redshift, RDS, S3, Glue, Lambda, DMS, CloudWatch)Implement data transformations and integrations using Python and JavaEnsure reliability, performance, and maintainability of end-to-end data systemsImplement infrastructure-as-code using Terraform for managing cloud resourcesMonitor and optimize system health and performance using CloudWatch and SplunkMentor junior engineers and code reviewsClearly communicate technical topics to both technical and non-technical audiencesCollaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to define data requirements and deliver solutions in agile environmentsRequirements Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field10+ years of professional experience in data engineering or related domainsStrong hands-on experience with:Databricks (deep expertise required)AWS nativeDbt, SQL (PostgreSQL), Python, Java, AWS (Redshift, RDS, S3, Glue, Lambda, DMS, CloudWatch), Data Pipelines, Data Modeling, System Maintenance, Data Integration, Performance OptimizationProven leadership experience in technical teamsStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsExperience working in agile, iterative software development environmentsAbility to quickly learn and apply new technologies and domain knowledgeExcellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex topics to diverse audiencesNice to Have SkillsExperience with Kafka (streaming/data pipelines)Experience with Docker and Kubernetes for containerization and orchestrationProficiency with Splunk for log aggregation and system monitoringExperience using Terraform for infrastructure automation and managementStrong SQL skills, including performance tuning and complex query designSalary RangeWe are committed to offering a competitive salary for this position, with an estimated range of $170k to $240k annually. Please note that this range is intended to provide a general idea of what to expect; however, the final offer may vary based on experience, skills, and other factors.
