Position SummaryThe Claims Manager is a senior working leader responsible for managing a reduced, complex caseload while providing leadership across claims teams or functional areas. This role balances hands-on claim handling (approximately 30%) with management responsibilities (approximately 70%), focusing on high-exposure claims, operational oversight, and client service excellence.Key ResponsibilitiesClaims Handling Leadership (Primary Focus – ~80%) Manage a portfolio of complex, high-exposure, or sensitive claims across lines of business Provide advanced technical expertise in coverage analysis, investigation, reserving, and resolution strategies Directly handle large-loss or escalated claims Serve as a technical resource and escalation point for supervisors and staff Ensure financial accuracy and effective management of claim exposuresLeadership & Team Management (~20%) Lead and support supervisors and claims professionals in day-to-day operations Provide coaching, guidance, and mentorship to drive performance and development Support hiring, onboarding, and succession planning efforts Promote a culture of accountability, quality, and continuous improvementOperational Oversight Monitor performance metrics, including quality, cycle time, and financial outcomes Identify trends, risks, and opportunities for operational improvement Support consistency in claim handling practices across teamsClient Relationship Management Serve as a key contact for clients on complex claims and service-related matters Participate in client meetings and performance reviews Ensure adherence to client-specific guidelines, contracts, and SLAsFinancial, Compliance & Governance Ensure strong reserving discipline and oversight of claim financials Support audit processes and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements Reinforce internal controls and risk management practicesQualifications Bachelor’s degree in business, insurance, or related field preferred 8–12+ years of progressive claims handling experience, including complex claims Demonstrated leadership experience, particularly in a working-leader capacity Strong understanding of TPA operations and client service expectations Advanced analytical, decision-making, and communication skills
