Regional Travel RequiredField Technician Level 2Job Description: A senior-level telecommunications professional responsible for leading complex installations, maintenance, and decommissioning of telecommunications infrastructure, such as in Central Offices, data centers, and other network environments. Key duties include mentoring junior technicians, managing site teams, overseeing high-risk activities, interpreting technical documentation like rack drawings and MOPs, and performing advanced testing, troubleshooting, and equipment configuration while strictly adhering to safety protocols and standards like GR-1275.Core ResponsibilitiesLeadership and Mentorship: Lead and mentor Level 1 and 2 technicians on the job, ensuring the proper execution of installation and decommissioning tasks.Technical Oversight: Oversee the entire process from site preparation to material handling, installation, dismantling, and site restoration.Complex Installations: Perform and lead complex hardware, software, power, and fiber optic cable installations.Testing and Troubleshooting: Conduct optical, power, and network element testing, using tools like and BER testers, and troubleshoot issues independently.Project Management: Manage logistics, track job costs, and ensure project completion within deadlines.Technical Documentation: Read, interpret, and apply information from floor plans, rack drawings, work orders, and carrier-specific installation standards, including Telcordia GR-1275.Site Coordination: Coordinate with project stakeholders and lead site teams as a Site Team Leader.Key Skills & Knowledge:Proficiency A strong understanding of the Telcordia GR-1275 standard for Central Office installation and quality standards.Telecommunications Equipment: Experience with various equipment, including DWDM, Cisco, Ciena, and Infinera equipment.Power and Fiber Optics: Deep knowledge of -48V power principles, fiber scoping, continuity testing, and fiber installation techniques.Tools and Equipment: Proficient use of hand tools, power tools (like bandsaws and hammer drills), and specialized test equipment (like OTDRs).Safety: Strict adherence to safety protocols, performing daily Job Safety Analysis (JSA), and understanding safe work practices around live equipment.Professionalism: Strong communication, leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with a commitment to professionalism and quality.Work EnvironmentExtensive Travel: Requires significant travel away from home and the ability to work in various environments, including tight spaces and potentially at heights.Physical Demands: Involves physically demanding work, including lifting and moving equipment, and requires working indoors or outdoors in various conditions.
