Content Strategy Intern Kick-Start Your User Experience Career We make user-friendly digital products (sites, apps, and software) that are loved by the people who interact with them. We care deeply about online content and devote great energy to its excellence. We're looking for someone who is passionate about writing and strategizing online content. We are also looking for someone who might be a good fit for our team longer term. Warning We don't do traditional copywriting. Writing for the web is very different from traditional or advertising copywriting. You'll need to be willing to learn how to write online and aspire to create outstanding web content within the standards and best practices of user experience. You've got a ton to learn, and the work will sometimes be tedious. Write, Edit, and Proof Author, edit, and assist with content for websites, intranets, apps, mobile sites, software, internal projects, client-facing and internal-facing documentation, and marketing efforts. Learn Content Strategy & User Experience Immerse yourself in the craft of content strategy. Learn the principles of UX and apply them to your work. Contribute to content strategy discussions and documentation, and participate in client Discovery, user testing sessions, and meetings. Work Closely with Team Members Contribute to defining, strategizing, and documenting UX solutions. Really. Do Research Participate in client Discovery and user testing sessions. Take Notes & Author Documentation It's not glamorous, but you'll learn what makes real-world digital products tick. Required Skills & Qualities This is a writing internship. You will write extensively every day you're in the office. If you don't feel passionate about words and writing, this internship is not for you. Degree Program We're looking for college students pursuing degrees in: Journalism / Communications English / Writing Library Science Related Writing-Centric Programs General Writing Skills High proficiency in English grammar and usage. Familiarity with AP style. Online Microcopy Skills We'd love you to have experience writing content, particularly microcopy, online. If you don't, the strength of your writing should knock our socks off. Content Organization Experience organizing disparate pieces of content into clear categories. Software Skills Required Mac or PC Operating Systems Required Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) or Equivalent Strongly Desired Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, XD) Strongly Desired Wireframing and/or Prototyping Tools (E.g., Figma, Axure, Sketch, etc.) Comfortable Learning Code Not scared of web development and learning more about it. If you're not already knowledgeable about development, show us a willingness to learn at least basic HTML. Learning & Curiosity Relentless desire to learn and immerse yourself in all things UX. Willing to quickly learn new tools and approaches. Independence The ability to make things happen with extraordinarily limited direction. Excellent proactive attitude, take-charge personality, and "can-do" demeanor. Personal Organization Ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines. Evaluation Criteria Applicants will be evaluated based on experience, online samples, interview, and references. Hours & Pay 1020 hours per week, paid hybrid position based in Columbia, SC $12 per hour. 4-week trial period to verify skills and fit.
