Bert Ogden McAllen BmW Service Dept TechnicianThe General Technician is responsible for performing vehicle repair and maintenance work as assigned in accordance with dealer and factory standards. S/he also will oversee the work of any apprentice technician assigned to him/her.Essential duties include receiving repair orders from the dispatcher and taking them to the stall area. Performing work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards. Diagnosing the cause of any malfunction and performing repair. Communicating with the parts department to obtain needed parts. Saving and tagging parts if the job is under warranty or if requested by the customer. Examining the vehicle to determine if additional safety or service work is required. Advising the service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the time promised. Documenting work performed. Road-testing vehicles when required or referring to the test technician, keeping in mind that customers' vehicles should not be used for personal errands. Supervising work of any apprentice technicians as assigned. Attending factory-sponsored training classes. Keeping abreast of factory technical bulletins. Ensuring that customers' cars are kept clean. Keeping the shop area neat and clean and being able to account for all dealership-owned tools at all times. Understanding and following federal, state and local regulations, such as those governing the disposal of hazardous wastes.Qualifications include being 21 years old or older, being able to pass a drug test, being able to pass a background screening, having a high school diploma or the equivalent, ability to read and comprehend instructions and information, ASE certification preferred, general mechanical skills, valid driver's license and a good driving record, manual dexterity, and good judgment.Employment benefits include paid vacation and holidays, 401(k), vision insurance, dental insurance, and medical insurance.
