Incomplete applications may not be accepted.DescriptionThe Assistant Athletic Trainer is required to adhere to the direction of team physicians and the Director(s) of Sports Medicine, performing all duties required as an athletic trainer, including but not limited to: injury prevention, evaluation and diagnosis, immediate emergency care, treatment and rehabilitation, and medical record keeping for athletes. In addition, this position will be required to oversee day-to-day operations, game management responsibilities at assigned games, and other administrative duties assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine.Job DutiesResponsible for assisting the Head Football Athletic Trainer in evaluating football athletes' readiness to play, provide participation clearances when warranted, initial assessment of athletes' injury or illness, provide emergency or continued care, and determine appropriate referrals.Assist the Head Football Athletic Trainer with the care for football athlete's injuries utilizing therapy equipment/modalities and rehabilitation or treatment techniques.Responsible for evaluating men's tennis athletes' readiness to play, provide participation clearances when warranted, planning and implementing a comprehensive rehabilitation and reconditioning plan for athletic injuries and illnesses with the use of appropriate therapeutic exercise, rehabilitation equipment, manual therapy techniques, therapeutic modalities, and/or medications for the women's basketball/men's tennis teams.Assume responsibility for administering appropriate first aid for the management of acute injury and for recognition, evaluation, and initiation of the Emergency Action Plan for potentially serious or life-threatening injuries.Implement the appropriate safety policies and/or Emergency Action Plans for the University athletic venues as developed by the Director of Sports Medicine.Promote health care information through advising and counseling athletes, parents, and coaches on matters pertaining to the physical, psychological, and emotional health and well-being of the competitive athlete.Provide coverage for other Samford-sanctioned athletic events when assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine.Assist in managing the budget, orders, deliveries, inventories, and management of insurance claims and processing for athletes.Designated contact and coordinator for the Student Assistant Intern Program and the on-campus clinic for the orthopedic team surgeon and fellows.Represents the Athletics Department at national, conference, and/or other sports medicine symposiums as required or requested.Comply with the University Mission, the Strategic Plan of the Athletics Department, the National Athletic Trainers' Association Code of Ethics, the Alabama State Practice Act, and HIPPA.Maintain certification requirements of the Board of Certification and the National Athletic Trainers' Association.Maintain license to practice as required by the Alabama Board of Athletic Training.Promote the profession of athletic training through appropriate channels and work within the scope of practice determined by the Board of Certification, the Alabama Board of Athletic Trainers, the State Practice Act, and individual licensures and certifications.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Athletic Training or related field from an accredited college or university that leads to athletic training certification.Current certification as an Athletic Trainer from the Board of Certification.Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Alabama by the Alabama Board of Athletic Trainers.American Heart Association -
