Senior Utility Standards Engineer (Engineer III–V)About the Role:A large electric utility is seeking an experienced Standards Engineer (Level III, IV, or V) to develop, maintain, and improve engineering standards, equipment specifications, and technical practices supporting electric transmission, distribution, substation, and generation systems.This role plays a key part in ensuring safe, reliable, compliant, and cost-effective utility operations while collaborating with engineering, operations, construction, and project teams.ResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain engineering standards, specifications, and design guidelines for electric utility infrastructure.Support design reviews, technical evaluations, and engineering compliance for capital projects.Review drawings, equipment specifications, and construction packages to ensure quality, consistency, and adherence to applicable standards.Research and apply industry codes, regulations, and engineering best practices.Evaluate new equipment, materials, and emerging technologies to improve system reliability and performance.Develop technical specifications for equipment procurement and provide engineering support during vendor evaluations.Collaborate with engineering, operations, construction, manufacturers, and external partners.Participate in technical reviews, field visits, and industry events.Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and training to engineering teams.Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes, standardization, and operational efficiency.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).Experience level based on position:Engineer III: 3+ yearsEngineer IV: 6+ yearsEngineer V: 10+ yearsExperience with electric utility infrastructure, including transmission, distribution, substations, or generation systems.Strong understanding of engineering standards, utility design practices, and applicable industry regulations.Ability to review engineering drawings, one-line diagrams, specifications, and technical documentation.Strong communication, project coordination, and technical writing skills.Experience working with engineering software such as AutoCAD or similar design tools is preferred.Preferred Qualifications:Professional Engineer (PE) license.Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.Experience supporting utility compliance and regulatory standards.Knowledge of applicable utility codes and industry standards (IEEE, NEC, NESC, NERC, FERC, OSHA, etc.).Why Join Us?Influence engineering standards used across critical utility infrastructure.Lead technical initiatives that improve reliability, safety, and operational performance.Work alongside experienced engineering professionals on large-scale utility projects.Opportunities for technical leadership, mentorship, and long-term career growth.
